That's the "truck part" the newbie driver installs the first time his rig leans waaaay over or his trailer tries to come around on him.

Sometimes the diaphragm in the brake chamber is referred to as a "pancake",...
When you see on yous will know why,....jtrnr1951 Thanks this. -
Yah, that is where I have heard this too. Seems to be a popular term in Quebec.
-
Well, my ex's handle was "Pancake", and I once heard a driver over the CB radio saying he was going to "pancake" a doo-doo onto his seat unless he didn't hurry into the truck stop real quick. But, other than loving pancakes with REAL butter and maple syrup, I've never heard the phrase before pertaining to a truck part.

Brake air pressure expands the pancake-size rubber diaphragm to move the brake push rod. A blown pancake will usually have a small slit allowing applied air pressure to leak. This can be detected by a slow drop in air pressure with the engine off and the brakes applied. If an air leak can not be found at the various hoses, listen at each brake chamber.

pancake is a rubber diaphram that is is some types of brake chambers. NOT the 3030 type. they cannot, should not be opened up. the other type when leaking, instead of replacing the whole thing, you can replace pancake inside while on truck. real cheap. I have 2 spare's alway's with me. in any truck store you'll see them. look's like a small rubber pie plate.

It's completely safe to replace the pancake on a 3030 IF you cage the spring. Much faster (and cheaper) than replacing the whole chamber.

Most new brand 3030 brake chambers are now clamped shut on the front chamber where that ###### spring is,you cant get into it unless you cut the clamp, dont ### with that spring or you might loose a hand or something worse when that thing comes apart, the back half is the one where you can change the "pancake" if it goes bad.
Peterbilt of Lousvills has 3030 brake chamber for $49.josh.c Thanks this. -
that is very dangerous. it says so on the brake chamber.
