It has the Volvo ved12 motor. Great mileage but a little week once I get above 35000lbs. But I love the mileage
The Challenger Thanks this. -
That is reassuring to know. I have heard but have not confirmed that the D13 is supposed to be better. Anyone on here know if Roehl is ordering more Volvos with this engine?

wow, thanks for all the info guys. I guess it sounds like I should enjoy the roomy sleeper, and deal with the 9spd. Those of you that had / have 9 speeds, what kind of mpg were you getting. When I'm empty I'm pulling about 7.5 (been deadheaded a couple hundred miles) but when I'm loaded driving from WI to PA I'm only getting 5.9 to 6.2. I would think if I had the 10 speed, it would be better.
For the guy who asked about the scanner, I have one, and used it yesterday. Otherwise I wouldn't have gotten any of my paper work in for next weeks paycheck. I can see where it's going to be nice to have, but not neccessary. -
I been with Roehl for abit also. And the equipment I've had and seen is pretty much beat to hell also.I was told they only service/pm the trucks every 40,000 miles.THEY WERE SERIOUS!! LOL!! I'm beginning to see that there is not much diffrence between Roehl and the other companies any more, other than the other companies seem to have a lil bit better equipment and will let you idle if you dont have a apu.
-
What other companies? I know this is not true of Werner, Swift, or our neighbors at Deboer. I haven't looked up Schnieder or JB.

I got an 05 international 9 speed with 640,000 on it. Im a bit excessive cumpulsive when it comes to watching my MPG, trying to run about 58 and watching my shifting. On flat ground with a light load, under 30,000 I normally get 7.5 to 8. Loaded all the way to 80,000 drops to 6.5 or so.

Wow, that was an old post by me. Thanks for the info though GHop, others will find that useful I'm sure. Since that post, I had a few different trucks, and all of them were 10 speeds. My MPG on my Freightliner without an apu was usually around 6.8 to 7.0. I had an International with super singles and I was around 7.5, but only had that truck for a week. And my last truck was a Freightliner with an apu and I was getting near 8 mpg. When loaded with 44000lbs and driving at 61 mph I was still getting 7.3. All the truck except my last one needed a little work when I got them, but overall there were decent trucks.
I have now moved on from Roehl, so good luck to all the current, and soon to be Roehl drivers. -
Whenever I've gotten a "new" truck with whatever company I've been with it has always taken awhile to get the bugs worked out. Unfortunately as a new driver no one listens to you so you have to do a lot of shmoozing to get things done. As far as sliding the tandems, it sounds like you've had a run of bad luck. There are also a few tricks to getting the tandems slid, for instance sometimes you have to slide forward before you can slide them back. Before we had apus on our trucks (I'm on a hometime fleet) I never got a hassle about idling even though sometimes my idle time was as much as 50%. Especially with CSA 2010 coming Roehl has been quick to get things taken care of even quicker.
You could work for McLeod out of Decatur. I had a truck with a junk Mercedes engine. After sitting in a motel for a week while they redid four cylinders I got the truck back only to find out it had a leaking head gasket. I went through a gallon of coolant a day. Dispatch refused to get the truck in for repair and told me to run it until the engine blew and I was sitting on the side of the road. I went to Roehl shortly after that.
The biggest problem with our tractors is that there are three drivers and we launch out of a drop yard, not a terminal. As a result one of us has to sit in a shop when we should be rolling. So, things get left undone until one of us decides to push the issue and get dispatch to roll us through a terminal. -
My truck has over 700K miles and a boatload off issues. But what's funny is once you get used to the truck, get the serious stuff dealt with it's not so bad. I'm constantly cleaning the inside so it looks like crap but it's clean.
As for trailers, no problems yet. As for tandems I just rock the truck back and forth and sooner or later something works loose. All else fails spray with WD40.
I just finished EVO 3 btw so good luck fellow students.
