How would a Peterbilt with an 3406C 425 Cat, 15 Spd, and 3.90 would do on fuel running in between 65 to 70 mph pulling mostly heavy loads??

probably less than 5.5mpg above 65 if you are grossing over 78,000.
-
I'd be surprised if you saw 5mpg. Sounds like it was specced as a work truck.
-
4.5 to 5.0, need to be different spec for more.

There are too many variables here....A lot depends on the driver, condition of the truck, quality of the fuel and quite a few other factors.
People here tell me all the time that you can't get decent fuel milage out of a classic style conventional but I avarage 6.9 MPG with my W900L with a 525 Cummins.
That being said....Ther are plenty of guys that can't get better than 4.5 MPG with an areodyne fleet dog.
The drivers skill is the largest part of the equation. -
Hey, BlackW9. Not questioning your numbers here, but how on earth do you get almost 7 mpg out of a W900? Most of what I've read on that model puts the fuel mileage in the 5-6 range. Do you mind sharing some pointers on how you boost your mpg's?

I have...in previous posts.
Fuel milege has less to do with the shape of the truck than you would think.
There are times when I only get 4 MPG and there are times when I get 7+ and on a month to month basis it has been averaging 6.85.
I shut the truck off unless it's absolutely necessary for me to idle it.
I keep the RPM down and don't run around with my foot in it all the time.
I keep my tires properly inflated.
I use minimum throttle to keep the truck moving at the speed that I want to go.
I keep the left door shut and don't stop every 20 minutes.
That's a few...rjones56 Thanks this. -

blackw900,alot of what you say is true ,but theres also the thing of maintainace, clean fuel filters, clean airfilters, timely oil changes, also learned alot from big ray haveing his turbo problem, its was and wasnt the turbo alot had to do with the peramiters set in the ecm for shifting rpm and they also adjusted the speed sencer on the turbo, alot of little tweeks that guys that buy used fleece trucks that are not set for,an quick trip to the dealer and a few hundred bucks lol to adjust the ecm,,, along with you list of items in your previous post

Black W9
Yeah, I went to your page and looked at those posts after I posted that. That's definately some good info to work from, and I appreciate not flaming me for not doin' my research before I posted. W-9 with a studio sleeper is my dream truck, but after reading mpg horror stories I wasn't sure it would be smart to drive. So, thanks for keep the dream alive
