Now really, it depends on what you mean by emergency. To me an emergency is when Supertrucker just came rolling out of the entrance ramp and broadsided a 4-wheeler into my lane and I gotta stop right now.
Normal stopping and all, yeah I brake and downshift, splitshift and all the rest.... and I do it without my liquid load beating me all over the place too. That make you happy????![]()

you need to expand on what some teacher taught you. Most schools have rules against teaching new guys the tricks of the trade. what your taught is a guide to get you started, it's not set in stone. You have to grow with your experience, and learn some things for yourself.
-
The teacher was my dad almost 40 years ago and I cant really expand upon it other than to say cuz he said so! lol
I just find it interesting to hear other peoples opinions on this, I am not looking for the right or correct way. I have learned things for myself but i do not skip gears .....whatever gear i am in if I have to shift it will be either the one above or below the gear I am in or i wont shift at all. -
If it works for ya, that's all that matters
-
Just drive your truck the way you were taught, those drivers that "skip" gears are either over-reving or lugging to do this.
NDBADLANDS Thanks this. -
Yeppers, absolute agreement. On a little different thought, I always put my right shoe on first!
-
Some are taught by guys that have 6 months experience. That's the problem. Witnessed a "trainer" on one those shift simulaters a couple years ago. WOOOOWWW! got lost and did one those freak out gear searches. VROOM VROOM CLANK CLANK GDGDGDGDDG

Well, Duh. I did say emergency stop. I'm saying if you don't know how to stand on the brakes full force and down shift at the same time to use the motor, you haven't learned to drive, or shift.

-
I'd love to see that demonstrated on film in a real world emergency stop situation. -
I can downshift and brake at the same time just haven't figure out how to hold the video camera too. When I get that worked out I'll let you know. LMAO
