Name's Cullen, 25 year old potential future trucker here, from Florence, AL (for now, I hate this place and I'm leaving as soon as I have the means. Family ties...but moving here was a big mistake.)
In a long time of unemployment, I've had a lot of time to sit and think about my life...I've concluded that one of the very few things that makes me happy anymore is being on the road. I've figured at this point that I may as well make being on the road my job so I never 'work' again.
Been watching a ton of truckers' videos on youtube lately and I get more and more intrigued with each one. I've downloaded the AL CDL manual and have been studying it. Now to get access to a proper vehicle to test in here soon...
And in case you're wondering, my username does not pertain to Volvo tractors, rather it pertains to my current personal vehicle which is an '84 Volvo 244 turbo. For those 'in the know' I've converted it from K-jet to LH 2.2 from a 740 turbo.
That's all I can think of right now. Want to know more, just ask!

Welcome. Don't know about AL but in TX many places rent day cabs with 27' pup trailers for those wanting to take CDL. Normally charge around $3-500. Will take you out and practice backing, quick stops, parallel parking and whatever else your local DMV will be expecting you to do. Good way to get your ticket. But may have trouble getting job with out experience. You will probably have to beat the streets and find someone willing to give you a chance. Good luck.

Just a bumpdate. I moved to the Quad Cities in February. Started truck driving school here at Scott Community College in March. Had trouble getting my license switched over to IL (misplaced B/C during the move, had to order a new one) and ended up having to wait until this past Monday to start the driving portion of the class, otherwise I'd have graduated last Friday. Oh well, you win some and lose some. At least I'm making a great deal more progress than I have in entirely too long...
Thanks for a great resource. Though I haven't participated a great deal, I've learned a lot thanks to the many informative posts and knowledgeable users on this forum.
