Thanks for the info Newbie2be. Like I said to Speedman, keep us posted as to how you're doing and your assessment of the course at Baker. If I hear good things, I can always cancel my tuition at FVTC and follow your footsteps to Cadillac. BTW, is that the campus you're attending, and when is your graduation date?
How much did you pay for your CDL training?

I'm going to the Saginaw campus. I think we are slated to graduate March 17.

I was paid about $650 in wages to get my license back in 1990. Started training Monday morning, had the license Thursday afternoon, started on my own Friday night and have been at it with this company since.

WOW! 16+ Years with the same company.... Now there's a testament if I ever heard one. May I ask what company you work for?
-
Purolator Courier. Done everything from fuelling vans, to sorting freight to being a courier. This is my 20th year with the company. Have looked at moving on, figuring there is money to be made if you look in the right places. But as it is, I drive 200 miles/day, do 2 pick-ups that I don't load myself, and sleep in my bed every night (even if it is after 1am when I get home). Hard to give up on 20 years seniority and 5 weeks vacation LOL.

It's a relatively big city by Canadian standards, which would likely still be small town in the USA. About 350,000 people.
Yeah, I had to work my way through the system just like everyone else. It just was easier back then compared to today. I spent my first winter fuelling the delivery trucks. Then I worked on the dock for another 8 months or so. Then I got a driving job as a courier. Then we merged with another company and I got laid off briefly. Then one of the tractor drivers from that company decided he wanted to go onto days, so I bid on his run and got it. Our company has it's own driver trainers with signing authority, so not only did I not have to pay for my training, I got paid full time wages to go through the training. -
I'm not sure what "signing authority" is. Does that mean they are able to test you for your license? BTW Manistee population: App 7,000.

Probably just a matter of perception though.
