I guess you dont read the news much. The driver shortage is made up by steering wheel holder companies...
But yeah, this guy should not be working 14 hours a day unless he wants to. That's why i never went and ran tht anheisur busch dedicated account here at werner. What's the point in being local if you just go home for a 10 hour break? Factor in driving time to/from work and all, and you end up with...enough time to sleep. -
so I cant leave after 8 Hrs if I got back to the terminal & wanted to end my day? Doesnt seem Fair. Why does one employee of a company get to get up & leave after 8 hrs & another isnt? the way I see it is we work at the same job one person does one task in the office & I do another in the truck so why dont we have equal rights?

Welcome to the wonderful world of truck driving! Now you see why so many people dont last 1 year this industry.
Some people would love to have your job. So don't think for 1 second that the grass is greener on the other side. It just looks that way because more manure was spread there! -
You've been driving for 12 years and this is just now a concern? Companies try and squeeze everything they can out of you. It has taken me 21 years to finally find the job I was looking for. They only thing is, I had to take a $12,000/yr. pay-cut to get it. It hurts in the back pocket region but my stress level is WAY DOWN! I had to eat a lot of crap for years to get this. My loss in income was made up when my wife went to work, but with the economy now, it stills hurts.
My advice is to keep looking for the right job while you are doing the one you don't care for. Be GLAD you have a job now. While there are so many driving jobs out there, the good ones are only vacant when someome retires. Where I work there is only a opening if someone dies or retires. I'm still scratching my head how I got this.heyns57 Thanks this. -
What is considered a satisfactory work day? $ 2,000 ttt.

It's the job you signed up for...........................sorry but maybe you didn't read the fine print or ask the proper questions during the interview.
Most trucking companies want you to work for as long as legally possible, some even like you to fudge the legally part.
Marktruckerdave1970 Thanks this. -
Can you please explain the type of trucking job you currently have? It sounds like your happy and money is not everything.
I am a new grad of a local CDL school and trying to figure out what type of trucking job I want to pursue. -
When I was a "radius" driver for a union canned goods labeling plant, daily dispatches were adjusted to be completed within 9 hours. I preferred to hustle and go home after 8 hours, but management encouraged us to stay out until the truck was needed by the next driver. Everyone's paycheck would be equal. Drivers learned where to kill time. I recall a union rule that working more than eleven hours was strictly voluntary.

We worked 10 hour days and anything over 10 was OT. At one time they timed the loads and they came down to an average of 2 hours a load so if you did 6 loads it would take 12 hours. But in the real world it would take any where from 9 to 10 hours to do 6 loads if you didn't stop. So the boss just told us if you do 6 loads he would pay us 12 hours.
We were not union but some terminals were and we all had the same rules. I'm sorry but the union was useless in our business but at one time they were needed. Now all they do is collect the dues. In fact at one terminal there are drivers that are union and some that are not.
So not all local jobs are bad and I would match this one to any OTR job for hours worked.
