I was amazed at the stuff I DID remember from 30 years ago! My instructors are both really good teachers getting 18 year olds to back with ease and shift on the road. I'm going to tell on myself here though! Two students that never drove before did really good considering first time out. My turn I smacked out the gears like it was MY truck real impressive then promply blew the downshifts because of the braking to RPM clutch 1 nuetral RPM clutch 2 next lower! My instructor asks, when you drove before how often did you use the clutch? Answer: leaving first on a rollout and REVERSE. I shifted by engine sound and a developed natural rythem getting throught the gears up and down no problem. This was how I was taught! He says we can cure that and everytime I deviated. WHAM clipboard on my elbow. (not hard ) It helped. Gotta love an ex marine they get the job done. I have 5 weeks to go and am glad about getting my license back through school because so much has changed and the trucks are so much better! I would like to reiterate a previous comment concerning this forum. I joined here before starting school and learned so much about the NOW of the industry it made me an authority in a lot of areas to fellow students and 12 of them were referred to this sight by me. I took no credit for my knowledge and pointed them right in here. I knew more about CSA 2010 than the instructors did! Yup, learned it right here:biggrin_255:

    Found my thread (slow)
I have been posting on the board but have a hard time finding them the next day. (old guy)
    Well, in case anyone wondered:biggrin_25513:
!. I passed the community college with an A average. (300 hours)classroom/driving. Met lots of great people and drove different tractors with vans empty and loaded and tanks smooth bore half full and baffeled, 3/4 full. This was easy I did not forget much from the 70's.

    2. DMV road test got my class A back after 20 years! The chick that tested me was HOT! I did real well except she gigged me for shifting while turning. Hey, at least I used the clutch:biggrin_25510:

    3.GOT HIRED!

4.DOT physical redone. 3 month card because of blood pressure shown the door by company.

Well........I got a card for two years a couple months ago. Now I am with no card. Yes, I went to the doc today and got put on meds but I lost my opportunity. I was in my second day of orientation and it was my first choice for who I wanted to drive for!
I want to be a flatbedder. I am not devulging company because of policies.
If I get back in, I will sing their praises.:biggrin_25514:YUP it was.............:biggrin_25522:

That is old school for sure, floating gears. I was taught to double clutch from the get go, but did so well one of my instructors “Rose”, that’s right a woman, pulled me to the side and taught me to float gears while I was in school. The deal was I could only practice floating while she was my instructor. To this day I still float constantly and fall back on double clutching in a pinch. You definitely brought back some memories, thanks. I hope your first choice becomes a reality I’d like to hear you sing!
