And we wonder what's wrong with kids these days....
-
I feel sorry for the kids, specially the 6th graers who wont be back at that school and who are graduating into middle school.
I would have had issue not being allowed to be there as a parent to see my kid make that big step. -
You have to feel sorry for the parents also. Who now "believe" that their children graduate anything, before their 12th year of school.
Just another way to get your money.Ducks Thanks this. -
Not sure i understand your comment???
I do feel sorry for the parents as well.(not the ones involved in the brawl)
I feel alot of pride and joy when one of my kids grads or achieves a set goal, and would be really pizzed the phup off if i couldnt attened the ceremony.
Not sure how that gets money out of me???
Those moments for real parents are priceless.Injun Thanks this. -
I was proud when mine finished high school. I did NOT attend his graduation from community college. But I will attend his graduation from the major university.
"Graduation" from kindergarten and 6th grade is NOT a major accomplishment in my mind. It is a phenomena that has just recently started within the past 20-30 years.
Money ??? As in gowns, caps, etc etc. The "Graduation" has become an industry unto itself. With the average child having as many as 5 graduations before they turn 25.
I waiting for the "Lost My Virginity" graduation bubble to hit...then I'll attend.truckerdave1970 Thanks this. -
I had a kindergarten graduation...and there were no caps and gowns to buy. I felt pretty special up there on that stage with my dad out in the audience. It was a big step for a five-year-old.

LMAO.... I had my first GUN at age 9, and was in the woods hunting alone. I had been actively shooting since age 6.
Now you understand how 'little" graduation means to me.
If we raise candy #####. That's eventually who will be running the world.
I hugged my kids every day, still do if they're here. They knew they were special to me...and still know. It didn't take a come together moment that was put on at a state run facility, for doing what was expected of them.truckerdave1970 Thanks this. -
I don't believe that ceremonializing every stepping stone in a child's life is healthy for children. It only leads kids to expect acknowledgement and reward for every little accomplishment. And in the real world -- for which we are to be preparing them -- that just ain't so!
Promote kids to the next grade level. There's no need to "graduate" them. -
When it comes to parenting,to each their own,far be it for me to tell someone whats best for their own kids if its not hurting them.
I will say this though...
My two oldest have long since graduated,I was there.
My middle gal is in her last year of a free ride at Baylor,I will be there for her graduation, also whatever law school she decides on,I will be there for that graduation as well.
My twins are only going into 5th grade next year, but im at every single event i can possibly be at concerning school.
They all grew up beside a pizza oven in our family restaurants over the years,so they know what hard work is,but their JOB in life, until they hang that paper on the wall,is school.
Nothing is as important, nothing comes before that, period.
I celebrate to the fullest, exam grades, report cards, schoolastic achievments.etc.and drop the hammer down on failures or half azzin.
As a parent, the greatest gift i can give my children next to love,is an education, they go hand in hand.
When i attend a graduation, even from elem-middle school,im telling my kids I love them and im proud of them, and so is the entire family.
When my kids graduate from anything,my mom and dad, sister and brother, and their kids show up,its a family event.
Yes we all stand and cheer when their names are called, bang cow bells, pots and pans, and blow off hand held air horns, and make complete fools of ourselves in our matching tee shirts we get made for each event!
But then, the graduation ceremoney isnt for them, its for the family.
Yes I was mortified at all my graduations growing up,its my turn to pass down the tradition.
If all parents acted as retarded as my family does at graduations, maybe more kids would graduate in this country and we would have far less drop out rates.Injun Thanks this.
