    DO NOT DO THE LEASE!

    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...s-advice/94252-what-do-when-you-get-your.html

Do NOT just take any truck they throw at you if you do take that fleece! Look at every lease truck there and take the BEST one! If they get fussy about it then ask them if they will fix EVERYTHING on it that is bad when you take it to another shop for an inspection like the nearest dealer and tell them they pay for the inspection as well you would "feel" better if someone who isn't in charge of the lease is checking out this so called"investment" you are about to make! Also ask them what the difference is with trucks that have 100,000 miles on it to one with 500,000. Ask them if you can have a copy of the lease to let your lawyer read it before you sign and if not that should tell you something there that all isn't right in CRE Land! A tactical retreat then is advised! But if anything either read the WHOLE thing before you sign and use a yellow marker and highlight anything you have a question about and also write page and paragraph on a separate paper. Call OOIDA ( Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association) and ask them what they think about the CRE lease program that is if they don't fall to the floor and LTFAO! (816) 229-5791. If they want to rush you through the paperwork then play dumb and dumber and drag it out or just walk out! But make sure if you do to have THEM sign a release letter saying that you came in as a company driver but they "put down what they told you about no company slots and "but there are lease trucks available" and that you refused the option to lease. This is to CYA from them hitting your "DAC" report with a "quit" mark as a lot of companies do as you are actually on the "payroll" when you got on that bus and the reason why I advocate going to orientation in your own ride or a rental! You aren't into them for as much money that way and you have a ride home when things get FUBARed later! go read that link I posted and get the guy who might do the lease also. And that's something else. Which one of you is going to do the lease and how much will you pay each other and who is going to pay taxes and so on! That is NOT a good idea and ask CRE about that also as it sounds like they are passing another buck around and now getting you to pay another cost that they won't! Remember a lease is the same as being a company driver BUT you are paying to work! You pay their truck costs, fuel costs, maintainance costs and your OWN health insurance and disability insurance and NO Workers Comp is NOT insurance! It's CRAPOLA! It pays you about what you pay in taxes! Yes it will pay for an INJURY but what if say you get the plague or heart attack or something not covered by WC? And disability Insurance like that duck commercial? Let me tell you a little story. I came down with a little bout with cancer in April of 2008. Oh my insurance covered me pretty well BUT because i had no disability insurance the bills didn't get paid and now I'm going through bankrupcy! That is the most important thing as a business person you can do for your self. It will help to pay the bills until you get back on your feet! There is no "I can't afford it" but in these made to lose L/P you just might have to decide to eat or pay needed costs!
Think real hard on this as they are now pulling a flanking maneuver on you and you'll feel like you're at the botton of the valley at Little Big Horn!

    Thanks for your service!
    Good luck Marine!

PS/ Let me know of any company who will let you do the above to one of their lease trucks. C.R. England doesn't end messing you up when you leave. They wait a few years and then attack your personal lines of credit.
If Hell be on Earth, it is called C.R.England and other trucking companies of their sort. Marine, there are at least 5 more dirt bags listed on here. READ!!!:biggrin_2557:

Well, let me say right off I drive for Stevens.
I do have more than 30 years of driving experience and have logged more than 2.5 million miles...accident and ticket free.
I retired a couple years back, but then came back.
Found out that if you're gone two years from this industry, you're brand new!
Had to go to CDL school for a refresher course, then start over.
I chose Stevens because of their reputation for training.
I have found they live up to that reputation.
Is the company perfect? not by a long stretch of the imagination, however I haven't found one yet that is.
My last employer was close...but their out of business.
    Stevens is a training company.
From my observations, 50% that turn up for orientation, end up going home for a myriad of reasons. Most common: Failed drug tests, health issues and failure to disclose derogatory information such as DUIs, Felonies and tickets or accidents.
Of those that go out with a trainer to begin with, more than half don't finish. Of those that start O2, half again will not finish.
The numbers I found were about 3% are with the company one year after starting. Reasons vary.
I personally have not found anything discriminatory, unfair or beyond reasonable with expectations.
I have found them to be very thorough. They have a lot of rules to follow, but each one is there to protect you (and them).
The equipment is excellent. The service on it is excellent.
Most trucks are KWs with some Petes and a few 'others'.
Stevens has a lease program. It is a true walk away and seems to work well for those that have a mind for business.
There is no trouble being a company driver. (I am). You don't have to lease. You still get a good truck, good miles and good service.
I currently average more than 2700 per week as well as earn my fuel bonus.
There are plenty of drivers there that are on the company side that have been there a bunch of years.
If you choose to lease, then for ANY reason decide you don't want it, there is a $500 cancellation fee and you are welcome to go back to the company side. They will do a payroll deduction of $20 per week for the cancellation fee, if you want.
I know several persons that have gone lease, then back to company.
There are also O/O if you choose to go that route.
I'm trying to be fair and unbiased in the description, but like I said...I drive for them.
I CHOSE to drive for them. I could go nearly anywhere now.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask me.

Hang in there cowboy. just make sure its the life style you want. Also just think of the future. Trucking sucks for just about all rookies. You just have to suck it up at first and it will get better.

"Found out that if you're gone two years from this industry, you're brand new!

Had to go to CDL school for a refresher course, then start over." But insurance won't let you back for 3 yrs. after an accident, your fault or not.

    WHAT IS THIS????

Hmmm, there was a huge pension fight in the 1970's when this guy retired after 25 yrs of steady driving and tried to get his pension. AFL-CIO at the time and Dept. of Labor went to bat for him. In the 25 yrs. he'd been laid-off for 5 months and that, said the dude holding onto his pension - was INTERRUPTED SERVICE AND THUS DID NOT QUALIFY.

The driver died in the hospital of cancer before the issue was resolved, but I never did see the true ending to this debate. Your line of "2 yrs. and you're new" reminded me of this. Thanks for all your details, helps compare apples to apples.:biggrin_2557:
