The problem with a radio built 35+ years ago is the caps will likely be bad even if they are not it's still only a 23 ..... as long as you don't put money in them and they work they will still get you on ch-19.
You can buy a 40 ch for under $50 .... -
Technically it is illegal to use a 23 channel radio if you are not the original owner.

if obama won't follow the law, why not ignore it?
thanks for the info.

Why? If that is true, that might be one of the stupidest things I have ever heard... -
it has been illegal to sell them since 1978 so how did someone buy one ?
With a 40 ch radio less than $50 who cares. -
Why is it illegal to "buy" a 23 channel radio?
(I heard this was so once and can't remember why) -
All "Class D" CB tranceivers need to be FCC Certified, formerly known as FCC Type Accepted.23 channel radios were not FCC Type Accepted
Bruce, do you ever recall anyone being cited for this violation?
-
The FCC does not allow the SALE of them so if they cannot be sold how do you buy one ?
How many 23's are not modified which voids any certification. Heck a 40 ch is only $40 -
Hhhmm.....so were 23 channels never FCC certified? Then when did Uncle Charlie start certifying radios?
I always thought back in the old days when you bought a brand new 23 channel radio, it was already FCC certified, like how a new 40 chanel CB radio is today.
Easy. Ever visit a second hand store? Maybe eBay? Yes you can still buy used 23 channels all the time. Why anyone would want one? Unless it's an old Browning or a Tram, I sure wouldn't.
