I am not the original poster... I just posted an example from my actual log book. And yes, it is legal, otherwise DDL would show a shaded red area and flag it as a violation.
I don't see why splitting a log causes so much confusion for drivers, safety dept., dispatchers, etc. It's really simple.
![[IMG]](proxy.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fi247.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fgg155%2Fllilillill%2Flogsheet.jpg&hash=2b9a889a9086f073cdd4c399e3b49f45)
In the above example, I started driving at 01:00 and put in 6.75 hours of driving before my 8 hour break. This means at 16:15, I am allowed to drive another 4.25 hours before I have to take my 2 hour break. I only ended up driving 4 hours.
After my 2 hour break was up at 22:45, I would then be allowed to drive 7 hours before I'd have to take another 8 hour break (11 - 4 = 7).truckerx1 Thanks this. -
Heres another one that confuse'e them, Nice copies of DDL by the way. I flag a V/I Pretrip no time deduction, then later in the day I will add a 15 minute deduction for say fueling (which only requires a flag) or with loading or unloading. Same with the Post trip I never give either one there own time deduction only a flag. You have to show it either combined or separate, but combining the time with loading, unloading, or fueling is legal and acceptable. When you unload pneumatic trailers you really do not have much to do during that 15 to 30 minutes anyway, perfect time to do the VI as well as assisting with saving your 70. minutes count.

I usually try to combine my PTI with fuel first thing in the morning. But most of the time I'm not too worried about conserving hours. I'm home every weekend for a 34 or more and rarely see that 70 marker come up on my log.

Edit, Never mind, you're doing split sleeper.
-
He did stop driving just before 2100 and took another 2 hour break (he took his in the sleeper, though officially it could be either line 1 or 2 for purposes of the split sleeper rule.) That, combined with the 8 hour sleeper break he took earlier, moved the start of his 11/14 to the end of his 8 hour break. When he takes another 8 hour split it will move the start of his 11/14 to the end of the 2 hour break and extend the 14 by another 8 hours.
Confused yet?
-
I know i don't know everything but how is that log legal u didn't take a ten hour break so how did u reset ur 14hr window again if i overlooked something plz let me know i am of course only human
-
Because the 8 hour break doesn't count against his 14 hours. It "extends" his day. Then, like another poster stated, once he took his 2 hour break later, his day is recalculated from the end of his 8 hour break.

And, unless you completely understand how to split log, do NOT use it.
It can and will get you in a bind, real quick !!
Good Luck !!!!
