Does any besides me Fish on the road,
When I was driving full time i held license's for CA, OR, and WA the three states I traveled the most. If I had time and felt like relaxing I would drop a line and sit for a few hours.
Does anyone else out there find this a relaxing way to kick back after driving all day, and what did you do with you catch?

Short of watching the hatch along the way, and seeing some fairly large swirls from fish when going by, no I don't. I wish I could take the time, but I drive more Iowa than MN, and the best places I get near are close to home.
Every load I haul is hot and the only times I would have time are if the load would be cancelled before loading, and that doesn't happen often enough to make it worthwhile.
Thanks for starting the thread. -
I have fishing licenses in Idaho, MT and WA. I wish there was a national fishing license! I've paid for temp licenses too. I catch and release unless camping and hungry.
Here's a few pics from a few weeks back in SW Montana close to Idaho border. Also a run along the UP in Michigan. There's tons of great places to park/stop there.
I hardly EVER stay at truck stops. Too much smelly piss, garbage, noise and crowds. nasty!Attached Files:

Thats too bad I know a great little spot in IA NW spirit lake, IA great place for pike. they have a walmart to park at and its a 10-15 walk to the lakes they have 3 of them. -
That looks amazing I have to head that way again, I used to run through there a lot, I plan on backpacking there in a few years, saving the money its a big trip from CA.
I think I like the Rivers best of all OR, WA have some great Rivers to fish in. Last time I hit Donners pass just before you run into NV they have a huge pull off, great place to stop. I pulled 15 trout out of there, then headed to Sparks, NV and fired up the BBQ in the parking lot of the Petro. Man I have drivers lining up said they would pay for them, NOPE ITS ON ME GUYS. I'll be there again next week, hope the catch is good. -
I've been at the lakes, there are several smaller ones nearby, and several within an easy drive of there in IA and MN. Big Spirit actually borders MN and East Okoboji and West Okoboji comprise the big lakes which join. Big Spirit drops into East Okoboji over a spillway
Northeast and eastern Iowa has the Mississippi and tributaries, smaller impoundments and farm ponds all over, many of which are spring fed.
There is some very good fishing for brown trout and rainbows and brookies, the browns are reproducing naturally now in some area rivers and there are brook trout reproducing in Winneshiek county, at a small stream, -
If you ever get up in Minn. go to Lake Osakis off of I94, 10 miles east of Alexandria, or 100+ west of Minneapolis, good fishing. They have bass, walleye, sun fish, blue gill & may be some northern's.

Williamson River, where it crosses 97 in Chiloquin, Or. I've actually dropped my trailer at the diner and bobtailed in to the RV park across the highway. Rented a space for 2 days. The guy who runs the park will let you fish off the dock if you slip him 2 or 3 bucks, if you only have a couple of hours to spare.
This time of year is great for top hits. Late afternoon is excellent. I've had the best luck with a roostertail spoon lure on 10 lb. test, and just enough weight for a clean cast to the opposite shoreline. Make sure you use a black swivel, not a brass one. Brass is too shiny, you'll have steelhead hitting the swivel instead of your lure... -
North of Mono Lake on 395 the stream is 50 feet from the road, Great Rainbow and brown fishing.... This time of year I carry the old pole, cast iron skillet,Coleman stove, coffee pot and of course, got to have cornmeal on the fish
