Mexico isn't any more dangerous than being in the US for the most part.
Sure, drug violence is erupting, but it's still mostly confined to certain
areas and to those who are either involved in the drug trade or the police/military.
I will take my chances as a white American in Mexico City (ever been?)anyday over places like New Orleans, Chicago S. Side, Atlanta, NYC outside Manhatten, etc. And Yes, I have been to all those places! Spent quality time on the ground. Got a feel for things.
In the US violent crime just happens. No reason. Might have something to do with all those meth heads and crack heads running lose. Or maybe it's the nice young men that have formed themselves into neighborhood associations and enjoy hanging out on the street corners, vending various substances, playing ambassador to visitors and extracting taxes and various "penalties" when they deem fit...
And does the US do any better with all the guns in the world, the death penalty, a huge prison population?
Even with all the anti-crime bills and cops on the street, crime rates are still high in the US.
Time to look for some real solutions. Not some band-aid stop gaps.

Funny thing. I just returned from a road trip that originated in Nuevo Laredo to Monterrey and ended in Reynosa, in my new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and without incident anywhere. Contacts with military and police roadblocks was professional and polite on the part of the authorities and never once was I threatened nor did I feel threatened.
Some folks succumb to the media hype and BS to easily. Sure, there is a drug war going on down here. BETWEEN THE CARTELS....Prof.Gringo Thanks this. -
live in mexico, and i don´t reccomend to come here, the things are getting worse every day, last week i got a double tanker truck stolen, and, the process to get it recover is extremely slow, so, better stay in the u.s.

I´ll have to agree with the below posts. I´ve lived in Mexico for a total of 4 years, and just got back last Monday (I´m staying in a city about 60 miles south of Mexico City). I´ve never once had a problem here. Tue the violence has increased since Calderon started his drug war, and also in my area in the last 6 months, but so far I haven´t had to change my routine. Then again, I don´t go down dark streets with money hanging out of my pockets, or staying out all night looking for trouble. It´s like anyplace in the world -- keep your eyes open, use common sense, and you´ll be OK.

Truth, we dont need no stinking truth LOL. But hey, here is some anyway.

A gun battle in a rural area of the northern Mexican state of Sonora pitting suspected drug and migrant traffickers left 21 dead and nine arrested, six of whom were wounded, officials told Efe.
Just 12 miles from the US Border.
An ongoing drug war in Mexico has left upwards of 23,000 dead in the last 3 1/2 years.
The local press, which keeps an unofficial tally of deaths attributed to organized crime, says that more than 3,000 killings have occurred in the past three months.
The number of drug-related slayings climbed to 1,200 in June, the deadliest month in the last four years. EFE
This crap happened less 24 hours after obama declares violence along the border has decreased LMAOOOOOOOOOO.ironhand Thanks this. -

I have visited Mexico many times, and not the usual tourist spots. I've found the majority of people helpful, friendly, and I've never felt afraid. Honorably discharged or not, I would hope you'd be banned for making racist, sterotype comments.

Over looking all those dumb ##### writing nonsense, serious question, Is there a set law for Hours of Operation or rather driving imposed on Mexican Drivers?
MexicoTrucker and Prof.Gringo Thank this. -
Yeah, established by the Ministry of Labor. 8 hours per day for those working day shifts, 7.5 hours in the overnight. Go figure.
Found an interesting draft report posted on the Motor Carrier Safety Advisory website titled Mexican Fatigue Management of CMV drivers.
This report was generated during a 2010 meeting of the MCSAC, and is translated on SCT letterhead.
It lays out requirements for their medical exam procedures, procedures for checking a Mexican CDL online etc. All the things that OOIDA's Todd Spencer says doesn't exist. BTW, Spencer is a member of MCSAC so it's obvious once again he's been lying to us all along.
From the report:
So what those numbers should tell us is even without stringent oversight, the Mexicans pretty much work hours similar to ours and the Canadians. I believe the Canadians are allowed to drive 13 hours a day.Prof.Gringo and KenMx Thank this.
