Oops. I guess I should have explained our log book system here.
We buy our books with 100 dupicate pages in them. Each book is numbered from xxxx00 - xxxx99. One page per calendar day that you actually use it not per day per month. ie, if you're OOS on Sunday 25 Feb you do not need to fill in a page in the book!
Also, we only have to fill in a log book page if we are travelling more than 100 km (60 miles) from our driver base.
Our book also is broken up into only 3 sections. Driving, Working other than driving, Rest. We don't have Off duty or Sleeper berth like in the USA, both those aspects have been combined under the one heading here of rest.
As for what happens if you make a mistake, cross it out, initial it and carry on. If your pet gets to it, and/or it gets damaged in some way, we usually rule two diagonal lines through the page, write CANCELLED between the lines, sign the cancellation as well as the bottom of the page, then re-do it on the next page in the sequence.
Also, when we require a replacement log book because the one we're currently using is about to run out, all unused pages in it get cancelled when the new one is issued.
The numbering thing is something the authorities use here to prevent the use of two or three log books simultaneously by the same driver, a practice that was until about 15 years ago widespread in the industry here before all states got linked together via a central computer system.
We also used to be able to pick up a log book at the local police station but that practice has also been terminated. We can now only get them from an authorized DOT (our equivalent) outlet.
Hope this helps clarify things a bit.

Ok and you say we are difficult over here? Wow! We do live in different worlds huh? L.o.l.
We have the same general rules it sounds like, except we do have line 1 and we do not have to get the log books from a DOT officer, they can technically get them anywhere if needed, but companies prefer their own log sheet style.
Wow that is wild to me! As it is wild to you that we are so different. We learn something from each other again

If I get a chance and the time over the weekend I'll get a couple of pages scanned and do some examples of a typical working situation here for all you lovely people to see.
One other thing we have to contend with here as far as logs are concerned - Our 24 hour clock does NOT start & end at midnight each day. The term in any 24 hour period here means just that. Rg: if you're intercepted at 2 AM while driving, they'll count the time back to 2 AM the previous day!
One 'good thing' however, if there is such a thing, is that when we're intercepted here the officer (either DOT or police) has to then rule a RED line in the book at the time of interception. Upon a further interception, no officer of either department can go back in the book any further than the last red line drawn in it. The downside of this however, is that they CAN go back 28 days in the book if there's no interceptions.
Anyway, as I said, I'll try and find/make time over the weekend to get a couple pages scanned and will also send you guys/gals a copy of our logging rules.
Take care and keep 'em on their wheels

friggin' numbered pages, not only do I have to pull the staples out of my book to punch holes in the side, I now have to cut the tops off 'cause thats where the numbers are

If your in the US you don't have to worry about your numbered pages as far as dot, now your company make be a different thing. You simply have to be able to give them the last 7 days. Your putting way too much work into it. By the way it is not illegal to recopy your log book page should you find a correction need to ensure its accuracy. Of course no one here would ever recommend redoing a log book page to cheat, that would be illegal.

If the log book is numbered it's possible the company has it done that way for a reason, you might check with them.
Just saying

The log system in US is made to easily manipulated by the drivers and companies. The behind the scenes people that write the rules know what the are doing.

FYI i met a scalemaster in Utah that liked loose leaf logs.....in utah, if you have an inspection and have violations, they have to make a copy of your log pages. It's nearly impossible to put a bound log book in a copying machine. Also, I had a couple of times where my company would lose my log pages (im talking about actually losing perfect log pages, not when theres an error on the page and it makes it show as "missing"), and if i still had the original, i could photo copy it and stick it in a trip pak. MUCH easier with loose leaf.
When i ran paperlogs, it took me a while to figure out how to do loose leaf for free, but once i figured it out i made the switch. I was using the logbooks the company gave us, i bought a pair of pliars and pulled the staples out with them (they are BIG staples), and bought a set of hole punches and a binder. I punched holes in them to fit my binder and ta-da. I'd keep about 100 blank pages in my book......any time i got bored i'd make more. That way i never ran out. It was also nice never having to switch to a new log book.
I also used jumbo paper clips (the HUGE ones) to hold my carbon paper in place for the day and to hold my last 8 days out of the way.
I'd also prune out old pages. I'd only keep the last 8 days in the book because thats all you're legally required to have. I retained my log pages forever, just not in my main book, and when i got home i'd dump all the old ones off in a desk drawer at home. If you go to canada you need 15 days + canadian legal log pages.
Also, I run bound log books kind of funny. Unlike most drivers, I do not use them for one month. I use them until i run out of pages. It might be 30 days or it might be two weeks (i screw up and void them out LOTS AND LOTS, which is part of why i used looseleaf...makes me look like less of a moron!).
I simply don't agree with wasting perfectly good log pages. I work for werner now and first of all, i have several log books with one or two pages filled out with someone elses info on them. Technically that falls into the area of multiple logbooks, but i figure since they're way way old, it's fine. The logbook i actually use when my qualcom screws up, i use a page or two when i need to. So it ends up with a page or two from one year, a page or two from 6 months later, etc etc etc.. Whatever.
I've never had any trouble from any LEO with my logbooks, and when i ran paper logs i worked for a non-prepass company (CRST) and had multiple level 3 inspections and got pulled over once and the officer just looked at my book real quick. Didnt say much.
