I had pneumonia and fractured some ribs cause of the coughing. That was painful! Having a cold or flu in the truck sucks, but toothaches I personally think are worse!

I also keep a basic survival kit in my trunk.

It includes food (MREs), water, entrenching tool, water purification tablets, thermal blankets, hunting knife, hand crank am/fm/weather alert radio, induction flash light, candles... stuff like that.

Flu..toughed it out. Drive an hour...sleep two. Repeat as needed.

Toothache...found the nearest dentist. Paided out the ### for the work.

Food poisoning, passed out cold after emptying both ends violently. Thank God I was younger. It would have killed me at my age now. The highway patrol was nice enough to stop and see why I was parked on the side of the road, on a 2 lane, hanging out the jump seat window.

Other stuff..colds, cramps, stiff joints. Lots of aspirin and Pepcid.

New skin is nice, they still make it...i think its actually an improper spelling like Nu Skin... I used it a while back when i smashed a toenail off (dropped an old battery backup unit for a computer on my pinky toe!!!) and nothing would stop the dang bleeding....would just bleed through bandaids immediately.....soo much blood for such a small wound....

I've never had a wound get infected to the point that i had to go to a doctor about it. I think im doing something right. As far as bandaids, it depends a LOT on where the wound is...but as Roadmedic, you know about the alternatives like gauze, etc...

Normally i wouldve used bandaids, but i felt like i didnt need them after I crossed the border and the bleeding had stopped. It healed well though. :)

Yea, I get real bad migrane headaches. When they come on, it's real quick and the spots in my eyes are so bad I have to pull over. Once on a two lane highway it came on so fast and my vision went to almost nothing, I had to pull off the side and put the triangles up. Luckily there was a big enough shoulder for me to get a good 4' from the travel lane, but it was bad.

Another time I had to have my appendix taken out. It took me 8 hours to go from Terra Haute, In to Richmond In. I was just dyeing inside that truck. I couldn't go more then 30 miles without having to pull over and rest for another 1/2 hour. When I got to the Petro in Richmond I decided to go ahead and go to the hospital, because at this point I knew I was going to be late and at least needed a Doctors excuse as to why I was going to be late. The Doctors said my appendix needed to come out. To be honest I was pretty happy to hear that, because it justified me being late. I did end up leaving the next morning to finish the load to NJ and then dead headed home to take a couple days off. The thing that makes me mad is that my insurance didn't cover me because I was out of network. I specifically remember telling the insurance lady whom sold me the policy that I drove trucks and did tree work, therefore I needed to be covered if I got jacked up doing tree work and also since I drove trucks that I needed to know that I could walk into any hospital and be covered. When I got to the hospital they looked at my insurance card and took me in no problem. Had I of known that I wasn't covered, I would of been more then happy to pay the taxi driver to take me over to Dayton, or back to Indy where I was covered. You would think in today's world where we have computers they would of known up front that my insurance was not good at their hospital. I guess that's my fault for trusting the insurance lady, and not reading the policy very good. Oh well, the hospital did take good care of me, and I'll be done paying it off within the next 18 months, 4 years later after the surgery........

I have had food poising twice. Last time a few years ago. Time before about 25 years ago. Thought I was going to die both times. The road is no place to be when you are that sick. First time wendy's chili. One small container that produced 5 gallons of the stuff...:biggrin_2556: The other was one of pilots chicken wraps or whatever they call them... In with the hot dogs and corn dogs...:smt078[IMG]
