The US is way behind in this area, other countries pretty much just use digital CB's now.
The CB's we think are nice are actually old and out dated technology.
When do you think we may see a digital 10M hit the shelves for truckers?
I am sure they will need to do analog/digital version so you will be able to still converse with current radios.
Digital radios are better cleaner sounding and are just better, why are we being held back in the dark ages?
When do you think USA will finally go digital?

As soon as the market will support them.
If there is no demand, there will be no market.
I, frankly, had never even heard of this concept until reading your post. If the industry wants to sell digital CBs, then their marketing campaign should begin. -
Because none of the CB hack jobs I mean shops would understand how to work on them. IIRC, there are 10m Ham radios, I may be wrong on this, but either way they arent for redneck cell phone use. 11m digital CB, sounds nice, just as long as the FCC puts a firm foot down, no roger beeps, toys, echo boards, etc. Seeing how theres a huge market to hack up radios, theres no need for digital. If you want digital, learn ham, and forever lay down the grown up walkie talkie good buddy lol.

You will NEVER see a "digital 10 Meter radio for truckers". That's because 10 Meter radios are to be used by LICENSED ham radio operators, and the current crop of so-called "10 Meter radios are against the law to start with"! *IF* there ever is a digital CB radio, it will be according to existing
Part 95 Rules and it will STILL preclude ANY radios that have "extree" channels and power beyond 4 watts.
FCC has and IS citing illegal CB operators who encroach on frequencies outside the legal 40 channels with warnings to trucking companies to STOP their drivers from encroaching on unauthorized frequencies. Some operators have received fines of up to $10,000.

Ah yes, trust me I understand the laws for 10 Meters, If you are licensed to be a Ham radio operator then there is no law against a "trucker" to have a 10 meter radio whether it is digital or not. I see your point, you don't like unlicensed people having a 10 M but that's not my question.
Digital uses less bandwidth, Digital is clear, Digital should allow less power consumption, Digital is just a better form of airing.
America would go digital, this would allow all citizen bands to run in a smaller bandwidth thus opening more airspace for other important communications.
As you know bandwidth is limited and this only seems like the next step, going to digital CB's -
if you want digital get your license and and use the d star system from ICOM there you go problem solved

The dream of digital cb is going with the notion cb is progressing, and its users, the majority follow the rules. CB is all but dying, being replaced by family radio, and cell phones. If cb users cant use what they have with good sense, then whats the use? Definately dont need to modernize a service that most of what you hear is trash talk, lol. If you want digital, get your general ticket, and get a real radio. problem solved.
-
Don't need a General ticket. Technicians now have access to 10M.
-
Yep, techs now have the privleges that the old techplus had.

I don't see the facination here with 10M it is a dead band that only opens once in a great while. When it does its fun to work but its like 6M only open every once in a while. The digital voice that is on 2M is real clear and the repeaters are poping up every where so it will be the first to do true digital voice. If you want to talk local its great. if you want to go to the HF bands 40M for the day time is great to rag chew on and at night 75 is great for regional rag chew. Then you have 20M for all the long range stuff so with no more code the general is the only ticket that makes since. you get all the world wide bands and the local as well.
