Do you like the new hours of service regulations, or the old regulations?

The only thing I really dislike is the fact that basically anything less the 8 hours doesnt stop the clock. Sometimes I want to take a nap or stop at Walmart i'm not working but it counts. I think if they made it so anything atleast 2hrs would be fair then I can stop shower and eat and not worry about it. All they're doing is encouraging drivers to falsify they're logs and I guess thats what they want then try can bring in the cash!!!

 

old rules if you stopped and took a nap for 2 hours you could add that 2 hours on top of you 14 (that would actually be 16 hours from the point you started your day to the end)
something like this
start 0600
stop 1200-1400 (nap)
start 1400
stop 1500 (receiver)
start 1700 (leave receiver)
stop 1900 (arrive at shipper)
start 2000 (leaving shipper)
stop 2200 (stop for the day)
10 hr break

That above would be a legal day under old rules. (don't get picky on me and say i forgot the pre trip/post )

the way rules are today you would have not of been able to leave the shipper at 2000, you would have to take a min of 8 hour break then you could drive.

old rules gave you more flexibility in order to take a nap and not lose drive time. this is just one example and under old rules there was a bunch of ways you could split break, like 7-3 5-5 8-2 and a bunch of other ways.
The way they have the rules now it is 8-2 ONLY (or 2-8 however you want to look at it)

 

I feel the same way. Get rid of the 14 hr clock or just get rid of the logbooks entirely. Its only been a revenue maker anyways. If I ran straight by the book, followed every rule in that little green book. I'd owe my company money at the end of every week.
