Do companies give you a cell phone for work, or do you use your personal cell phone for work? I need to get a new one shortly for personal use.

Depends on the company. Most will provide some type of communication so THEY can get in touch with YOU. I am not so sure it will be a cell phone. Maybe with the smaller carriers. The only place I've worked at that actually provided a telephone had the phone set up so you can ONLY dial other company numbers. I'd suggest getting your own phone that way there is no issue. Good Luck!
Silver State Thanks this. -
Thanks for the reply. When you need to call a shipper/receiver would you use your personal phone? How does the phone billing work?
-
Unless the company gives you a cell, you will use your own to contact shippers/consignees.
rookietrucker and Silver State Thank this. -
Not only do you use your own phone.... You pay for the call as well!Silver State Thanks this.
-
If we have to pay for the call using a personal phone is that deductable at year end?
-
Yes! If you have to buy gloves, windex, paper towels, laundry, showers, anything that you spend money is deductible. Except for ###### & video games.
Silver State Thanks this. -
Thank you everyone for the information. Good to know about the cell phone and the deduction for taxes.
-
Also if getting a new phone set it up as a business phone. At&t does will give you a discount on the phone bill. Plus they send you a TAX form every year letting you know the YTD of the bills and what they were used for I.E. Txt, Calls, Internet, and GPS. this way you what deductions you can claim.
