    Hello every one.

My question today is about age. What is the average age of an active trucker and what is the maximum age a company contracts a trucker and the limit of age that the companies permit to drive if any; or the age that is mandatory to retire.

    Thank you for your responses.

:biggrin_25514:Well for OTR a driver has to be 23-25 yrs. old to start. I suppose you can drive along as you can without endangering the public. I'm 60 & i drive a grain hopper. I don't know of any company that has a mandatory retirement age. I would ask first & see what they say.:biggrin_25514:

As long as the driver can pass his DOT physical a company can't tell him he is too old. That would age discrimination. The only reason they don't hire before 23-25 is because of insurance reasons. Personaly I'm not even sure how they can get away with that, but then again our government takes advantage of younger guys. I could never understand how an 18 year old can drive a tank, shoot fully automatic weapons, loose a leg, get killed, etc, etc, but wait a minute young man, you can't drink a beer or buy a handgun until your 21.

You don't HAVE to be 23, there are quite a few companies that hire at 21, I myself will be starting OTR in September when I turn 21.

    Companies that hire at 21:

    KLLM
    Watkins Shepard
    MAY
    Prime
    Roehl
    Stevens Transport
    Central Refrigerated
    Knight
    Werner
    Melton
    GTI
    Schneider
Millis (if you go threw there school) or you need 1yr OTR Experiance.
    WSE

Theres more but those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

It is a hard and fast rule in the industry that being dead while driving is a dismissable offence. Driving while brain dead is apparently still acceptable.

and all that and you cant drive a CMV interstate until your 21. whats up with that?

I remember seeing a few trucking jobs a few years ago, "minimum age 25, unless married, then 23"....what kind of ####e is that? How can anyone get away with that?

The company im with requires you to be 23. But they also require 1 year OTR, so....not that bad really. Hell, they even officially require you be under 365lb
