You're right Mack- but as always, we (the drivers) are almost always held responsible for everything. And, as other drivers found out, getting loads reworked was like pulling teeth (with no novacaine)- they would typically only do it if the load couldn't scale legal. Of course, this didn't matter to most of the drivers on that run (Indy to Romulus MI) because if you run a certain way you won't cross any scales.

Only problem with going around the scales is the use of non-designated truck routes, something that's not allowed with doubles, anything longer than 48', or wider than 96'.
-
Yeah- but in this case, the route is all designated truck route- US routes and interstate.
-
No problem then. But according to the truckers' atlas, some states have more of those than others.

First post
Hi
I'm about to start with Central Transport here in York PA. From reading some of the posts about them it seems it might such a good idea. I sure would like to here from somebody who worked for them here. 42 cents a mile and 17.75 for dock seems pretty good to me. Maybe I'm missing something.
Anyone have any more inside to them ?
Thanks in advance -

Good luck Longrod, as a dock/driver, you will not be sitting around much, because you will be loading trailers when you aren't driving. However, that wasn't an option for me, because Indy has their own loaders (unlike cleveland,OH and Hammond,IN).
Another question is are you a Central employee, or are you employed by JWA, working under contract with Central? I was a JWA employee, and that could be part of the reason I had a bad experience.
And while the money is pretty good (I was making a consistent $700 paycheck every week) you may have to wait the three weeks for your first check.
So good luck and keep us posted! -
I'm glad that this was posted.
I sent my resume to Central Transport in Nashville last week, looking for dock / office or dispatch work.
Immediately I started getting calls and emails.
I plainly stated on my resume and cover letter that i was looking for a non driving position.
They just about beat my door down trying to recruit me for driving, even though I haven't driven professionally for 6 years.
I figured that this company would have it's problems, so i didn't reply back, but put them on my short list of contacts in case I find myself needing a new job. (I'm already working but I'm sick of my current job.)
Anyway, forget this company, I've worked jobs like this before where they advertise "home every night" but quite honestly the hours are so long that I'd rather be in a sleeper. I may as well go OTR in that case. -
Central Transport competed with my employers in the 1970s. It seems as though nothing has changed at CT. Of course, my employers did not survive deregulation.

Central Transport and all of it's affiliates are a cancer to the trucking industry.
