Yesterday I was hooking up my cb and hooked the wires up wrong I heard a pop and now the radio doesn't work and ideas on what I fried?
I use the cigarette lighter plug the wires came off and instead of tracing the wires back I thought I new whick was pos and neg.
The messed up thing about it is thats the second radio I screwed up in a year by doing that. The first one I didn't know I hooked it up wrong till smoke started coming out of the radio. I new there was no saving that one the board was cooked.
But this one doesn't look or smell burnt so I think it may be fixable. I just need to find out where to start looking.

Don't forget to check the fuse in the Cig Plug too, you could have blown the fuse in the truck or in the plug, or possibly both.

Smoke come out, it's fried. Things like diodes, chips and transistors can't handle backwards current.

You can always let a CB shop look at it. Diagnostics might be free.

Plan B, buy an identical one and return that one. I didn't say that.

OP said smoke came out of another one, this one just isn't working since he plugged it in.

I did that once........ Turns out the wire with the "ribs" on it was the ground and the "smooth" wire was the power....... Luckily it was only on a cheap little 20 dollar uniden radio......

It be just the fuse. But if not look for a burnt diode. Just follow in from the power cord. And you should see it. A Black and crispy part. Should be a very easy & cheap fix.

I haven't tried it since just to see if it is the radio. I did look over the board and couldn't find any burnt diodes.
The first one I burnt I had alligator clips and was hooking the wire up in the cubby where the radio goes. This one I had to resplice the plug and in stead of double checking the wires I just twisted them together and plugged it in I knew I messed up when the fan didn't turn on.
