Hi,
Our truck just lost a piston in NJ.We need to find a good trustworthy repair shop that doesn't have the high price tag of the dealers. We are from Florida so we don't know where to go. Does any one know of a good repair shop or even a private individual? Hopefully something nearby, but it would be worth towing to a good trustworthy place with a lower price to have the inframe done.
Thanks!

where in new jersey south or north? anywhere in jersey will be expensive especially north
having it towed into pa would be cheaper
what brand engine -
Hi, it's in North NJ. (Wharton) It's a Detriot Diesel 11.1 in a 1995 International. How bad can an inframe cost get on this engine?
-
1995 model..........sell it as is and upgrade to newer model.
-
not too far i can give you a # for a shop by me that charges 60 an hour about 2 hours from wharton they wont be in now till tommorow morning not sure they may even have a wrecker
price depends on how much you do if its just one cyl you could just repair that one but a whole rebuild can be 7,000 plus again depending what you need or decide to doOmega Thanks this. -

a take out in ohio $2950.ooOmega Thanks this. -
Hi tmlonghorns, how would we sell it as is with a blown engine? also he is afraid to buy a newer model because he had heard nightmares about the new EGR engines and we would have to finance it. What do you think?
Thanks 112racing. Is it possible to just repair one piston even when you have really bad blowby, blowing tons of smoke and oil in the water? i thought a whole inframe would be needed in that case. I would love to get the number to that $60 an hour repair shop...Thanks!
BTW could the inframe cost more than $7000, that's the big question. I guess we'd have to talk to the mechanic to find out.
Oh also, that take out engine..how many miles does it have on it? do you suggest putting that in our truck and what do they charge to do that? Does the engine have to be a specific match to our truck? -
i priced out a inframe for my c-15 before i bought it and 13k w/ no cat warranty, or 22k w/ it.
and that was from lower up rebuild -
cats are more to do than detroits got a friend that is getting a complete major right now on an e model cat its costing 11,400 with a new oil pump , oil cooler ($800) and a reman head and warantee
sad to say your truck isn't worth much to sell ....... even if you spent the money on a inframe it will probably be worth less than the motor job costs especialy with the 11.1 ...... but that depends what its worth to you
you'd have to call on that takeout to get more info on it but you could probably get away with less than 5k to get rolling if you went that route
if you want the number of that shop pm me i'll get back to you in the morning
as far as 7k that would be the lower price range could easily go double that -
Hi! Thanks for your help. I'd like that phone #. I sent you a PM. Based on the possibility that it could cost $14,000 for the inframe - I think we're going to have to put a new remanufactured engine in when we can afford it. So we could use your repair shop to put the new engine in since the truck is stuck in NJ. In the meantime, we may buy a cheap old truck just to get us by.
He really likes this 1995 truck and once it has a new engine it would be unstoppable. He says he sees a lot of broken down new trucks due to EGR issues. With the older pre-EGR model, he can fix just about everything himself.
wow, less than 5K to put the used engine in? The only problem is we would need a DDEC3 instead of a DDEC2, but thanks for the link. does that price include the labor?
hmmm, maybe that's a good option too. Do you know of any success stories after putting in used engines?Last edited: Jul 10, 2010
