If this company continues to do this you have a right to take legal action. I entered trucking coming from 26 years in management. On one occassion an assistant manager of mine was contacted by a company for a former employee's reference. She did not like this person and painted this person in a VERY negative light. This person was informed of the bad reference and our company's legal department was contacted. The only thing a past employer is allowed to state (or should state) is length of employment and salary. They can of course add positive comments that will not have any negative impact. In our case it was an example of one girl not liking the other girl that worked for her in the past. Now, mind you this was in the food industry. How some of these companies get away with the negative, sometimes unfounded DAC reports I'll never understand?????
i gave my current employer my 2 weeks notice today and they let me go

Sometimes we need to get back to a topic rather than someones rant. -
If the company wants you gone you will not hear about it until you have your walking papers. What good is giving them any notice?
