It's always good to hear or read about heroic acts by anyone.


An exploding tire generates enough force to raise a lightweight, empty trailer off the road or throw a passing car into the median or ditch. A safety cage used when inflating a tire prevents the tire from impacting you should it explode but the compressed air will still be very powerful and possibly lethal to anyone too near it.

There is another thing here, a fire extinguisher won't put out a tire fire, take it from someone that has been there and done that, the second one didn't help, either. Maybe one of those very large CO2 ones would do it, I don't know about that, but I've never seen one of those in a truck. It took five minutes with a fire truck and water to cool things down enough so the tire didn't re-ignite.
