I have been driving for Heyl for 4 years now, I Love this company. The best comany I have worked for, been driving for 7 years now. They do keep me moving, during this past year I was getting between 10,000-12,000 miles per month. I like that we do a lot of 1000+ miles runs. We do a lot of freight in and out of Central Florida, we have a yard in Zephyrhills, Fl that has everything you need (and the most BEAUTIFUL service lady in the industry). Depending on how many trucks we have in the area, it is usually in and out of Florida. We do a lor of juice going to the NW or NE. I love those 3000+ runs. We do a lot frright into or out of Florida Iowa/Nebraska, Texas and the Northwest. Our slogan is "Partners across the border" I have only taken 4 loads into Canada, we usually switch out with a Canadian driver before we get there.
We are truly a family company, everytime you are in our terminals, either in Akron, Ia, Zephtyrhills, Fl, Harlingen, Tx, Sioux Falls, SD, Yakima, Wa or Calgary everyone knows your name. Including the log dept lady in Akron, who has been there 40+ years, and always says Hi when you are there. When my DM dispatches me, I have all the info, no one bothers me about which route I take, or when I need to take my breaks. Just as long as I pick up and deliver on time. If I need something on the road, no problem, just get it taken care of. Mostly everyone has new equipment, and all the equipment is well maintained. I live in Texas and have no problems getting home when I need to, and are flexible on your hometime.
The only negatives are we do pay on Household movers guide miles, so just like all the other companies out there, the miles can be a little short. Again, I feel appreciated here, and mangement and saftey know what they are talking about.
FYI we are pronounced like HI'LLLLL not Hey with and !

edavies78.... I worked for Heyl several years ago and had the best dispatcher of my career there. His name was J.T. Is he still there???? Been driven since '77, and I would have to say he was the best dispatcher I ever had! If he's still there,and you can get with him, I highly recommend it.... Thought there yard was in Dade City... Was when I was there, have they moved it???? Holler Back

 

edavies- do you know if they hire out of md? how long are you out for? do their trucks have apus/what is their idle policy? thank you!

 

So do they have electonic logs? What are the trucks governed at? They still have rigmaster apu's or did they finally get TK units? Come on Edavies78 give us the scoop. Also, do you have to return the truck to the terminal when you go home or can you take it home?

 

I will be starting with hyel monday from calgary terminal ans was told i can pick any trk ranging from 2007 to 2010 out volvo's and fld's few hr training in calgary and then off to akron for 1 day oreintation as per the recruiter. Any info will help since i'm originally from toronto,on has anyone hauled into toronto with hyel.

Nice they let you pick. I didnt get to pick.
Everyone starts at 35 gabby but I think Canadiens are different they get paid canadien , not that that matters to you.
so .35 to start and 2 cents fuel bonus paid weekly , plus 2 cents performance paid quarterly and 1 cent safety.
I might be wrong on which is which but its .35 base and 39 with all bonuses to everyone at the start and goes up to 39 base plus bonuses for top pay.
They have APU's but many different kinds at this tims including Rig master , Thermo King and Carrier as well as Climate cab battery apu's which mine has and i hate.
Trucks are leased and are gone at about 480 thousand miles. Cascadias Volvos and Internationals but the internationals wont be replaced cause they are costing too much.

Oh and recruiting bonus is there and also sign on bonus is 1500 payed over a 6 month period. Also layover pay detention pay and unloading scales and washouts and multiple drops/pu stuff like that is payed.Mainly straight loads though I have never had a multi drop or pickup but they exist cause Ive asked others who have gotten them. Very long hauls usually , I have never gone below 1k miles on a run unless I was trying to get home or going toward a terminal I might of had to load something and drop it there to get my load.
