I'm a driver with about about five years of experience. But, it's been a little over three years since I had pulled a trailer and maybe eight since I had to shift gears.

Took a driving test of Thursday for what would have been #### close to a dream job for me. Still can't believe it, but they failed me on the driving test.

This was by far the most involved driving test that I have ever had to deal with. I do think that the guy was a little unfair on some things, but I can also admit that I am out of practice and it was obvious during the test.

What I really need it just to get back behind the wheel for a day. Few hours of shifting, some tight turns and some hard backs without having someone with a clipboard judge my every move, and I'll be good to go.

Are there places that will rent a truck and trailer for a day, or are there other places where I can get ahold of one for a day?

Even a truck driving school can offer a one day lesson.

Penske rents tractor and trailers. Trucking schools do give refresher courses.

You cant rent from Ryder without some creativity. They only rent to businesses. I tried that before.

Yep, I realized the same thing.

Local heavy equipment companies don't seem to offer anything that I can use.

Local schools aren't offering refresher courses that I can find. The school I went to 10 years ago does, but they are 1000 miles away.

    Checking on Penske right now.

Didn't think this would be so difficult.

Correct, last time I called Ryder they told me you had to be an existing business for 5years and numerous credit references, etc.

If you're business was in a good situation, and you needed to rent a truck for a day/week, you certainly wouldn't go to Ryder with their $800/wk 21c/mile when you could just go to Peterbilt or something and get it for $400/wk and 7c/mile:biggrin_25513:
Makes me wonder how they rent any out? But according to them, they're not sure if they even have any tractors available because they are "so busy" lol

Penske is a ROYAL pain in the Backside,
They will require you to have 1million liability, with 95k in Physical Damage Insurance, and 99% of the major Insurance Carriers for Commercial insurance, will not write a short term policy, I have found this out as I am trying to take the Road Test after being a idiot and letting my CDL Expire.

Just do like I did many moons ago... keep road testing with various companies until you acquire enough "practice".
