I took the KWhopper into KW to get the AC fixed and while there I asked them to look at the clutch. It releases way too high (almost all the way out) and the clutch brake seems to be useless.
Here is what they said:
"Truck has solo clutch in it that is currently auto-adjusting properly. The reset tab is broken off but no other issues noted at this time"
Can someone expand on that, especially about the "reset tab" ?
I was told that this is the way it is with the clutch brake and if I want it really working, to put an EZ-Assist clutch in it. For around $3k.

are they talking about "wear indicator tab"? The only tab i know of...
-
Someone probably broke the tab off trying to adjust it. It's just a little plastic tab that you can slide back and forth, but if the clutch isn't depressed it wont' slide.
Not that sliding it ever really gets it to adjust anyways. We get alot of driver complaints due to these clutches. They really love us when we tell them their is no adjustment on it. -
I hate the engagement at the top of the pedal travel. Normally I have had clutches engage no more than 1/2 way up the pedal release. This was weird. I am getting used to it but....if it cant be adjusted (per the dealer) then so be it.
They didnt offer any estimate on remaining life either... -
I was always taught and use 1 1/2"-2" freeplay
-
I have 1.5" of free play in the linkage...but...
-
That sounds like the clutch i had in my werner trucks. No adjustment.
-
Solo's bring the suck....
-
I was recently told to depress the clutch to the floor at idle out of gear, and drop the clutch several times to get it to adjust. I had no free play to begin with and now I have a little.
Has anybody else heard this? -
That is the way I was told to get it to adjust itself.
I had a solo clutch, worked ok,never had much free-play, but when it wore out, replaced with regular clutch. Problem was, the parts house could not take the solo clutch as a core on re-manufactured replacement clutch. Had to pay a core charge.mackdaknyfe Thanks this.
