So those of you that have one or have had one or know CBs what are some good mods to do to one?
I bought mine in OKC at the TA there and had them tune it and everything. That is my first time at that guy and it seems to be darn good. I have always used William from Rolling Radios out in WV but I wanted a GL so I bought this and had him do the work.
I just want to know what are some good add ons to this radio and also if anybody knows if that CB shop in OKC at the TA is reputable.

Nothing you can add to that radio, you can run an amp for more power
but the radio is what it is. -
Sparky says the G/L responds well to the top gun mod.Increases modulation.google sparky and check out the website.

Sparky is good, but not everything Sparky's "SELLS" is worth the money spent.
Top Gun,Swing Kits are no place for a GL.
I have one and it wasnt worth the money spent.
(FWIW,that Top Gun Mod has been around many moons longer the TTR)Mad Dog 20/20 Thanks this. -
Mine is peaked and tuned and it is clear clean loud and proud. I can also get crazy far recieving on this thing to.

IF that radio uses a 2SC1674 Rf stage in the receiver REPLACING it with a 2SC2999 is a good move. Next time it needs work see if that will add a bit more spunk to the receiver. Now if you buy a linear the liner preamp will do that for you.
I run a GRANT LT myself. -
Im liking the whole barefoot radio. I did run a uniden 78 peacked and tunede with a connex 250 on it. The linear was old and the radio did not like it so I took it off and sold the radio. I am very pleased with my GL. Once I am out on the road again I will look into getting more done to it and watch for those great radio deals.
My buddy just bought a connex 4800 for 200 bucks! Thats a killer deal if you ask me. Sent it out to Rolling radios and had it gone through and setup right. He loves it. -
The stock microphone that comes with the GL is junk.Get a RK are Astactic.I have a GL matched to a 250 Palomar with one 5000 Wilson antenna.I have talked up to and recieved 20+ miles running down the road with certain conditions. This was all set up at the 163 CB shop at exit 163 I-40 in Dickson,TN.the only shop I use.Cbtricks.com is a good resource as well.

one quick positive on Sparkys
That SkyThumper DX65 mic they are selling is quite the item.
Some guy in a TS the other night was doing a demo between the three mics mentioned
and the differences between them was very distinct, the DX65 was very clear compared to the RK56 and wasn't brassy an pingy sounding like the 636's are known for.
Its built on a RK56 case/cord but sounds neither the RK56 or Ast.636
Can beat the price for such performance,I'm ordering 3 myself.
