So I went to my first day of my refresher course of truck driving school today, and I got there a little early and was talking to a bunch of guys standing outside. As we were all talking this guy maybe 50? looked like 70 lol was talking about how the two companies he worked for had gone out of business.
I mentioned that there were quite a few that have or will be going out of business soon, and a new driver was like "WHAT" I was like ya Arrow trucking just shut down in December stranding 1200+ drivers on the road and that older driver was like "Who do you think I was driving for.......". He was stuck out on the road too. He had been driving for 20 years and for only 2 companies and because both went out of business he couldn't find a job. And now that its been so long he has to go back for a refresher course, he tested out this morning.
Just thought I'd share about my little experience.

Arrow employed when they shut down, and i hiked across america (5 months) and then visited asia for 3 months. All in all 1 1/2 years off with only 8 months experience. I applied at 2 places and got 1 to hire me, with NO refresher-man was I pleased, and scared i'd have to spend cash for the classes. I guess it depends on how bad they need you, and their requirements, as i did take a job that requires more work then flatbedding, and flatbedding drives many away. sure wish i could have got 1 year in though. I miss Arrow.
