.10 or .12 a mile!?! I'm in the wrong business!! If those are miles ran while the trainer is in the sleeper and the trainee is driving with no supervision, the company AND the trainer are taking advantage of the sap trainee! It's no wonder we attract the type of people to this industry that we do, no one in their right mind would put up with that kind of garbage. I can understand paying less for less experience but that is nothing but indentured servitude!

At least they are garaunteed the $500/$600 per week no matter how few miles are turned.

I stated elsewhere my trainee made about $650 last week. Take home (after taxes). With the extra miles and his cut of the fuel bonus it's probably close to 150 dollars more than he would have got if we turned less than 5k miles. ($600 - taxes)

When he goes solo all pay raises are milage based... Training miles are included when hitting those raise points.

####, U2. I didn't realize I was being taken advantage of while I was on your truck, in the sleeper, while you were driving and I was getting .12/mile. Talk about indentured servitude. Now I'm on my own clearing about $850/wk. What a sap am I!

If $850 a week to you is good money, good on ya! I personally wouldn't be happy with that but to each his own.

Hell, I used to earn $320 a week and my wife gets 300 a week. $600 a week will definately make things more comfortable. We will actually be able to pay rent on time instead of late all the time. $850 a week and Id consider my self rich

Herein lies the real problem !!!!!!!

$500 and up is good money to many of the newer drivers. I have read on here about drivers being thrilled with .30 a mile, even with 10+ years experience.

You have to realize you're shooting yourselves in your own foot. The future of trucking is really being destroyed. Unless you are going to be happy with $500 a week after 10 years, many folks need to rethink what they are doing.

There is not much of a future in trucking for most young drivers, so what are they going to do in 10-15 years?????

I really hope things improve, but I don't see that happening.............................

Yeah, I won't be either if that's what I'm pulling in fifteen years from now. But for a new driver who paid nothing for a great training program (got paid actually) and is about to celebrate his first birthday as a truck driver, is debt free, has money in the bank, and will start contributing to a 401K this month, you betcha, I'm #### happy!

I came into this with reasonable expectations; didn't figure to get rich. I just wanted to do a job that I enjoy and make what I need to get by and still put a little something away. So thank you, Grizzly, you're right: good on me!
