Does anybody know what the fuel presssure should read coming out of the low pressure transfer pump?
I am getting a reading of basically zero at idle and 18 PSI at full throttle. I suspect this is my issue, but I don't know what the pressure is supposed to be.
Thanks

15 to 20 lbs at idle, 35 to 45 at 1200 RPM, and 60 to 68 at 2100 RPM.
I would be cheaking the ECM power and grounds, cab grounds. also if you have access the an electronic tool check the key on offs, totals, when it sputters.
Just a thought!
So I'd say you have low fuel pressure. As long as you have no restrictions in the suction line it should be the pump. A pump is pretty cheap so I'd try one of those first and see if that cures the problem. -
Thank you very much for the info small truck.
I think your right that it's the pump. The truck has nearly a million miles on it with what looks like an original pump on it.
Now if I am not mistaken I think there is a 90 degree elbow on the back of the motor on the fuel return side. Is there an actual valve in there somewhere, or is it just a small hole that restricts flow to control the amount of system pressure? -
There,s a check valve and an 0.80" restrictor fitting on the rerturn side - if you want proper fuel pressure you need to take it after the secondary filter
-
Thanks. I wish i could get at the back of the engine to check and see if it might possibly be that check valve, but I can't without tearing apart half of the truck interior! Hopefully it is the pump 'cause I ordered one yesterday. Should be here Thursday.
-
It won,t be the check valve - it would drain fuel back to tank overnight but once started you would,nt notice it
-
Cool. Makes sense. Thanks
-
If that check valve has a problem the truck will start hard after sitting overnight
Waht kind of truck is the engine in? -
Freightliner Columbia.
Hopefully the pump came in yesterday so I can change the old one out and see if that fixes my problem.
Cross your fingers.
