Are there any decent companies who will sign me on with an older truck?

Although I had pretty good experience in Indiana back in 95. First OTR job ever, o/o with Mayflower Transit in Carmel (Indianapolis), In - we bob tailed everywhere!!! To: night clubs in Chicago, horse ranch near Lafayette, canoeing in KY, strip bars in Chattanooga, Tn and be back next day!!! No one knew we're suppose to go into scale houses even bob tailing - until I had to run in, park it on the scale and jump out to use their restroom. When I was finally done, they asked why we finally decided to come in when they were closed, when we never bother to come in when they were opened through out that year?:biggrin_25521: They knew we were total newbies - basically lumpers w/CDL.

O.k Sorry I haven't been here in a while. I am going to a 6 month School at Ft. Gordon, and then the wife, has told me that she is tired of hearing me wine about my job in a cubical, and when I come back I'm not going back to my desk job, or she's leaving me!. So I have a 97 KW with a 3406E 550HP, 13 sp, and headache rack, less than 400K on the motor. I have been working on the truck, and its in outstanding shape, I put new brakes on it, fixed all the lights, and fixed any minor problems I could find, rebuilt the AC my self (first time I ever did AC). Here is my problem. I don't have any documentable driving experience, in the last 6-8 years, with the exception of some part time for a local tour bus line out of Louisville Ky. And the Military doesn't really keep records of what you drive and when. I have everything on my CDL, Hazmat, tanker, passenger, and have a passport and Twic card as well as a active TS clearance. Were I eventually want to end up is at Landstar doing heavy haul of Military equipment. But I am pretty sure there not gona talk to me with out at least 6 months experience. So I have already talk to Panther Expidite and they don't want a single driver, especially with not documentable experience. (Only Teams according to them, and they mostly run straight trucks). So, what do I do guys. Sign on with someone as a co driver and run team for 6 months, in a company truck, or is there someone who will give me a chance? I have a friend who has his MC lic and runs under his own name. He said he would right me a letter saying that I worked for him for 6 months. But I wouldn't have any log books, or any pay stubs to prove it. I don't know what they ask for anyway. Any suggestions?

Does anyone know if a step deck with a rated GAWR of 26,000 means that it can only carry 24 tons, or 52tons, or is there a frame rating on them. I am looking at a trailer I like, but the detail plate shows the GAWR at 26k, (no frame rating) and I know there are a lot of step decks out there that can carry 55,000 pounds plus, or are these guys just running with the trailer overloaded. Am I reading the Manuf Plate right? Is there a big difference between a spread axle and a step deck with both axles together in the rear? Thanks

I can't answer your question but the manufacturer probably can. Contact them and give them the serial number. Anybody else might just be guessing.

Nutcase, (thanks). But does anyone have an opinion on spread axle versus both axles in the rear. Thanks?

gawr is the rating on the axles which would mean 52,000 axle capacity for two

what you need is gvwr which is total cap trailer and load
