Has anybody here done a 1 man/truck/trailer independent operation doing all 10 provinces and 48 states before? Is it even feasible business wise/ profitable to think about it? What are going to be the implications on insurance rates, border crossing expenses, and other fees especially for a Canadian? Thank you.
Is becoming a 48 state, 10 province independent o/o feasible?

You will have to take many things into consideration. Who or what will be your customer base? Will your outbound/inbound be for one exclusive customer and you/they require that licensing for service? If not then you will be more profitable servicing an under serviced lane.
Unless you can get a premiun either inbound or outbound, running all over the map as a one truck fleet doesn't make sense. -
Hi i did start as a 1 man show running from Alberta down to texas.I did not license for all 48 i just kept in the central areas and have since grown to 3 trucks there is lots of work out there the problem is trying to get good rates. In some cases it would be cheaper to run empty to the usa then deal with the bs. Norman jensen does ace manifests it costs $ 9 per ace u have them due for you i think it cost $ 150 to get signed up with them.I have been doing this for 3 years on my own and still am making a profit my trailers are reefers and a dry van. Insurance is not to bad the biggest problem is the fuel suppliers want to be payed every week. Hope this help

I've talked with 2 guys that have started on their own, and they did the same as Roostercruiza. Get your authority for the states you'll be running in. That way it ends up cheaper. However, both of these guys weren't interested in being home much, so they did quite well, just taking whatever paid the most. Both were flatbedders, so that would make it easier for them to have a choice of freight, especially in the US.
