1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Will I be hireable?

just another thing about the whole "your cooked" deal...i was told by the company i failed the test for that once i do what i got to do on the drug counciling front i would be welcomed back. problem is i want to go otr, and theyre regional. but beggers cant be choosers i guess. another problem with that is it was 3 years ago. but anyway, if anyone has something more constructive than "look into other fields" id be glad to hear it. i will drive again, i just want to know the obstacles i'll be facing to get there. but mark my words.....and i will stay on this forum and update...I WILL DRIVE AGAIN! AND I WILL NOT SCREW IT UP NEXT TIME! everyone deserves a second chance. i made the mistake of getting into it that young. So please save ur fast food references (btw thats what i did when i got canned) and try to give me something a little more constructive. the first reply was good, because i know its a long road back. So thank u to all those who understand my situation. im not going to look into another field. im going to fight tooth and nail to get back out there. Thank you all again for your time on this thread. didnt expect so many comments so soon.

dannybrown- sucks for alot of us right now and yes it's worse to read the posts that say forget it . I hope you did not read that in my post. I was just responding to how I feel about today's current economy and the route I have been thru the last few years. Nothing else to say -but current times: they suck.
    - I wish you good luck and I hope someone does give you a second chance!!!!

No problems- I have seen enough ''spats'' on threads and did not want to be the cause of one.
One word of advise since you are new here-this place is a great source of info, great people, loads of experience but you will find the nay sayers no matter what. Take the information you need, as you said constructive, and ignore the B.S. Some people here are genuinely trying to help and some well.......you know the drill.
It can also be quiet ''entertaining'' on here too so for some laughs troll around other threads it can be good ''therapy'' too!! :biggrin_2559:

Probably you will need at least 3-5 years of "clean living" before anyone would even think about hiring you (and by then you'd have to do a driving school again).

Its the truth dude - it may suck, but that is the bottom line in this. If you get in a fatal accident with any sort of alcohol or drug use on your record, the carrier that hired you will be liable for MILLIONS in damages. End of story. The insurance companies and personal injury lawyers have locked this industry up with these kind of problems, and there isn't a second chance.

Don't delude yourself into thinking you will ever drive a commercial vehicle with that hanging around you. Not now, not in five years. Get real, and look for something else to do with your life.

I am glad to see you are making a turn around with your life. The problem is there is a lot on your background that is going to haunt you in trucking. You are too much of a liability. Trucking is not very forgiving. There is too much at stake between equipment and freight not to mention lawsuits from the motoring public. I know of no company that would risk their involvement with putting that past behind a steering wheel. Not to mention the cost of insuring such a driver if a insurance co would even cover such a risk.

This is not what you want to hear, but if you had a 100 grand in a truck with up to 3 million bucks in the box would you consider hiring someone with your past? If you are a smart business man you wouldn't. There are too many drivers out here with clean slates that do not pose as such a risk as you do.

Ok let me ask you one question. What part of by law ZERO alcohol is allowed in any truck at any time for all drivers went over your head? It doesnt matter if it was 1 ounce that had been there for two years or a case of beer that your where taking home for your days off. The end result is the same.

You may be able to get on with a company that doesnt use DAC but that's your only hope. And be real glad that they only fired you for it and didn't call in the authorities. If they had you wouldn't be seeing the inside of any truck for the next ten years. Other then that your probably looking at five years before companies will touch you again. Maybe three if your really lucky.

I read a similar story the other day of a positive drug test..altho i dont remeber where...truckers mag of some sort....and the end result was the drug counciling was done, but other companies didnt accept it...basically the same company kept that driver, and then another incident happened (non drug ticket or some such) and they fired him...then he looked for work elsewhere and no one would touch him because of the positive drug test....even tho he had done the req. classes.....so i dunno....i dont mean this rude..WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES...but STAY CLEAN , esp if you do manage another job in trucking...THERE IS NO ROOM OR PLACE FOR DRUGS IN TRUCKING!!!!!!!! WE HAVE PEOPLES LIVES IN OUR HANDS !!!!! good luck....
