    I recently bought another truck, 2005 W900L 86" Acert C-15 18spd 3.55 gears, ~662,000 miles

The clutch was adjusted just before I bought it, I've known this truck since it was new and bought it from a good friend so I know it has been well taken care of.

Periodically, my clutch brake does not work and the clutch wants to engage where the clutch brake should work, there have been several times I could not get truck into gear, I would have to turn off the engine put in gear and re-start.

This is the original clutch, but when it is working it works fine ? All the linkage looks good, It has allot more free play than I like but that's how the original owner liked it.

Anyone else have this problem ?

    Thanks

How much free play do you have ? ( free travel before you feel the pedal gets hard). Sounds like you need clutch and CLUTCH BRAKE adjustment.

Just to make sure everything is adjusted properly I would do a visual inspection of clutch release bearing adjustment.
Remove the inspection cover on the bottom of the bell housing and look up inside.
There should be 1/2" of clearance between the clutch brake and the release bearing. If that looks good check the clutch brake. Reach up in and try to spin the clutch brake on the shaft (if it does it's bad), and make sure the lining isn't completely gone.
If this is correct, then make sure your free pedal is 1 1/2"-2".
If both of these are correct, check for loose or worn linkage.
ALWAYS adjust the release bearing travel first, by using the adjuster on the clutch pressure plate. Then you adjust your free pedal with the external linkage.
    Good luck

I had the same proplem and I find that external shaft treads was bad I installed new one and took the slack out of the pedal .Now I have clutch brake and no Vibration. .Also make sure your clutch bearing well gresed .almost every place that does oil change will not remove the inspection cover to grees the fitting.

Sometimes the springs will break off the plates and intermittendly jam things up.

take the clutch insp cover off the bottom, check the clutch brake and make sure it has 1/2" gap, then take your hand and run it inside the bellhousing to see if there are any metal pieces laying in there, if they're not on the insp cover when you take it down. Sounds like a spring or 2 in 1 of the clutch disks is coming apart, thats where the metal will come from if there is any. Thats why it will not go into gear sometimes, and when it works it works fine.
