The Area Might be bad for Cops looking for truckers, Since 9/11 I wish anyone good luck with Profiling issues lol.
As for your truck being Governed, I will give you a little insight any Driver yep that is right any Driver regardless of Company Can spend a little cash and get their truck turned up. Somewhere there is always a Mechanic willing to take a couple hundred bucks and turn it up. Make sure you get the complete story, both side. There are always three sides to the Story, Your Drivers Side, The Cops Side and the Truth.
If you really desire to beat the ticker, I personally would check to see how much the fine is etc first. And Have the Truck Checked at an independent shop, to make sure your driver did not come to the states and have it turned up, the ECM on the truck will show a record of every time someone has hooked up. or downloaded the Information. If your Truck Driver is telling the complete truth, I would attempt to fight only the speeding violation, there are some key things you need to look into What type of Device was used, Lidar, Radar, or did the cop say he PACED him. If it is Lidar or radar I can point you to some very good arguments, with Court case #s where they have been challenged and won.
I beat a LIDAR Ticket in Virginia, I had to Appeal the County General Courts Decision, and I appealed it to the State Court of Appeals, I did in the Long run win, the case was Null Processed, ( which is a nice way of saying Dismissed for Lack of Evidence)
I found some very interesting information in several Studies done by Virginia tech and Texas A&M about the LIDAR and RADAR used today. There are many Variables for both, Radar can be Tuned by a Trained State Employee, who must have A VALID Cert Card from the Manufacturer This is Found in the US DOT guidelines for SPEED DETECTION DEVICES, also Lidar Can only Be Certified in a Controlled Environment, this is only done By Manufacturers Reps.
Most Cops Testify in Court that to their Knowledge the equipment that they are using is Calibrated, LIDAR is only calibrated once a YEAR, radar can be Calibrated Everyday Most PDs do GO ahead and Have their officers trained, Companies do it for free, Hell It is simply a tuning fork like one used for Pianos.
In Most cases you are better off to Just outright Hire a Lawyer and let him argue for you. As he is going to have "friends" in the court house he will most likely fair better than you.

When you come to a down hill grade just kick the jake off and let it roll. The governor is not going to control the speed, gravity is.
-
You are right about the 14 hour rule, it's the same thing that I told my driver. How ever I could not say anything until I have seen his log book.
These are my own trucks. Everytime they came back from a trip I spend 4 hours on each one. I know everything about them just by sound.
If you tamper with the ECU I will know because there is a switch on the door of the ECU which drivers are not aware of. -
Yes, I just was on it last night. The only place where it is 60 mph is in the construction zone. There is a strip in Lansing where it is 55 but other than that, it is usually 70. I will say that the construction has been going on for a few months and will prob go through the end of the summer, but that is the only reason any part of that highway is 60 mph. -
You don't have to open the ECU to tamper with it. There is a little plug in socket (on Freightliners) down by the driver's left foot. All you have to do is plug into that and you can reprogram the entire truck. There are programs out there that "fool" the ECU and MCT into thinking the truck is going slower than it really is. Those "Diesel Doctor" guys use them all the time to boost top speed, available horse power and torque, cancel RPM governors...all without leaving an electronic fingerprint.
Not saying your driver did this, but this stuff is available. Computer hackers are a lot more sophisticated than the high-school geeks of my day. If you want it programmed, they can and will do it...for the right price.
Truck speed in Michigan is no faster than 60 mph unless otherwise posted. "Otherwise posted" does not apply to those 70mph signs. Those are for cars.Wiseguywireless Thanks this. -
Yes, I understand that I was just making reference to the limits in general. Speeding in Lansing is just asking for a ticket, save that for Detroit or Grand Rapids haha.
-
I have the ticket in front of me, he was charged "68mph in a 60mph" zone.
He was also charged with "Fake report of driver duty status. Driver showing driving from Sarnia Ontario to Lansing in 2 hr 41 min.
I'm going to have to look at his log book to see what he did. -
I have heard that the Jackson area is bad....
I have gone through there many times also. the one time, she let me go, it was a while back and she realized that I knew a lot of State troopers that have gone through Lansing's dept. These ones giving the hard time to drivers are newbies and some of them push the limits unless they get caught. It is kinda common knowledge in the MI State Police. -
yikes.. not good..
-
Are you positive that the truck is actually governed at 62? My truck is "governed" at 64 but when the speedo shows me going 64 im actually going 69 according to my GPS.
