1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Will I be hireable?

The truth is that you will not be able to drive for a OTR company for several years. I hate to be negative, but as mentioned you are way to much of a liability. There still might be hope, but I highly doubt it will be OTR, or anytime in the next year or two. If you can get your CDL back, the only thing I can think of, is get a job that has trucks but don't try to hire on as a driver, such as a local city job, a manufacturing company that has company trucks, etc, etc. Work maintenance or on the docks and hopefully someday the company will be in a pinch and need somebody with a CDL. From there maybe they will slowly have you drive more and more. That's the only thing I can think of. I wish you the best.

Thank you all again for your insight. ive been dwelling on this for a while now. I think what im gonna do is a combination of the suggestions given to me. i'll look for a dock type job. something around trucks. when i get my license reinstated, and do the counciling, i'll go back to the company that said they would welcome me back and see if the doors still open. if not, and even if so, i plan on enrolling in an NA program of some sort. even though im sober now, it wont hurt to be in a group program and just keep going for the next 3-5 years, and maybe even further beyond that just for my own sake. By then i should have plenty of people to vouche for my soberiety and hopefully ill achieve my goal. I do understand the harsh reality of the insurance matter and what not. Maybe trucking isnt in the near future, but hopefully by the grace of God, itll still be there in the distant future. Thank u guys so much for opening my eyes to the reality that if my old company doesnt take me back, im pretty much untouchable for a very long time. That really helps me to realize that i need to find another field of work just to get by for now. And i need to not put all my eggs in this one basket, cuz its very bleek for me if Faulkner doesnt take me back. I hope they do. But would understand if they dont. But I wont give up on it. if it takes 5 years, 10 years or whatever of attending NA meetings and getting those sobriety chips, thats what ill do. Im done with my drug days, and thats not just because i want to get back on a truck, but because I want to get back on with my life. Im 26 years old, and feel like a friggin helpless kid. Ive made so many mistakes due to drugs......and im just done. anyway, sorry to go on and on, i get diarea of the fingers when i type. Thanks to all of u again, even the ppl who say to forget about it, cuz it really makes me realize how tough the road is. Pun intended.

Good for you! Definitely look at this as a time that your eyes were opened, and an experience that turns your life around. Don't hang with people who will bring you down - those who use drugs and alcohol. You've had a problem with this, so swear off of ALL of it now. Definitely join a support group, and find people who will support you in this.

When and if you do get your CDL back, think about finding a small company to drive for. You might start by working on a dock or in a garage as you mentioned. Then work your way back into it.

    Good Luck!

Bill about the only advice is look up local carriers. I know Refrigerated Express is local as well as CV transport and Coast to Coast.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I didn't catch your age, but time goes by pretty quick and I don't think you are banned for life! 3-5 years may get you back in there. Maybe it would be worth your time talking to a lawyer about your record if you are that serious about trucking. You could also just get a hack job save up some money and buy your own truck! Good luck!

it may suck, but it is what it is. haz mat sand? haz mat endorsement??? criminal backround check?

hauling haz without the insurance company CLOSELY scrutinize every drivers record?

it ain't 1985 anymore. the economy isn't all that great and there's still competition for jobs.

your driving history stays on file for 10 years. i dunno. 250,000 bucks for equipment and maybe a half a million dollar load on the back.

what do you think? be honest. what to you think? if you were the owner, and didn't know the guy/ gal applying for the job, what would you do?
