OK at least I got to use my 700 for 3 months after returning them 3 times now for some reason it has a missing file and says call customer support only to call and find out I need a new one they say they will send me a label to ship this one back so they can send me a new one. The problem is I drive a truck for a living. I STRONGLY recommend waiting to buy one of these until all of the "known issues" are resolved. If your like me you have enough 500.00 paperweights lying around.
The plus is when it works it sometimes had good routing but they really really need to do ALOT of fixes before they are reliable.

Hey Mark,
I bought the TND 700 about a month ago before going to train at my company. Anyway, I've been keeping up with all of the updates & everything was fine until today. When I pluged it into my laptop (like always) the lap top brought up an error stating that the USP had some kind of power surge. Then, when The 700 stated that it was connected, on the laptop, it stated that it wasn't. Then, On the 700 it pops up on the screen that a system file was missing (Had a big orange triangle) then I got the blue screen of death on my laptop & it completely reset itself.
Since the laptop was rebooting, I went ahead & unplugged the USB from the 700. Tried to see if I could at least start up the 700. NOPE!! System file missing. I cant even get this to connext to try to restore it from one of the back ups. What's wrong here? Is there a fix for this or am I going to have to send this thing back in? Cause if so, It's going to be a while before I get back home to get the reciept from where I bought it from Amazon.com. I have all of the original pacaging with me as I've kept it in its box & stuff so that I would have it ready for when I got my truck.
Can you help me? -
unless you are going by NC - I77\I-40,, Statesville any time soon.
Thanks,
Mark -
BTW.. I used to go thru that town of yours to get to Cobb Island.
Thanks,
Mark -
Hi,
Im going to purchase a new GPS by the weekend and have a couple of questions for you Mark. I have read a number of the posts in this thread and try to keep in mind that it is for trouble shooting so most will be presenting a problem. What concerns me is the number of problems still present towards the end of the thread or current replys.... We run mainly the lower portion of the 48 from VA to CA. Our main routes are VA to TX, LA, AL and back to VA.
1-With your current knowledge of the 700 can you tell me how accurate it is with the current updates in these areas?
2-Where do you think RM is in the current learning curve that they are experiencing? Do you feel the updates are making great process and seem to have the major problems covered or do you feel that the CURRENT issues that are still being reported indicate that its a long long road ahead?
Im not interested in having to do constant updating and product research and development for RM. Im interested in paying my $500 and getting a reliable product. I understand (as with all Gps units) there are minor glitches from time to time BUT anyone reasonable person would probably be able to find common ground on whats reasonable and whats not. So do you feel the technology and performance is there to purchase this unit with the current updates, put it in my truck and get a reasonable performance out of it that would benefit me and my company?
3-If I decide to go with the 700 should all the current updates be installed at the time of purchase?
4-Any recommendations on places to purchase in case of major problems? Im in a T/A quite often but would also like to send Deiselboss some business since he is a contributor to this forum.
Thanks for your time,
Stan
