Hello i want to buy my own truck and be a owner operator, i am looking at a 2010 International Prostar with 70,000 mileage and its got a 450 cummins isx with a eaton 10 speed w/ od and a 3.55 ratio. My questions are: Is it considered a good truck? What are the pro's and con's about this rig?

Unless you got a pocket full of $$, the problem with this truck and any other new trucks like this is that they are expensive. Don't make it so hard on yourself when you're starting out by buying such a newer truck!

With a new truck like that....maybe, maybe not. At least I don't have to worry about my truck regenerating to rid the exhaust of soot. This 2010 may even have to be fed DEF. You can have it!

I have no opinion either way as I have no experience with one nor do I have any friends that have driven one (that I know about).

You do see quite a few ProStars out on the road, so they must have something going for them. I think they're a decent looking truck too, if that counts for anything....

Well it's kind of like this... with 3.55 rears you're going to have to rev it too high at any speed (65 mph). That cost a lot in fuel or run at 55 mph. Secondly, I drove the same truck for 18 months. Gearbox out at 673 miles. Delivered without all the air bags connected. Gages never worked correctly;Something IH was always working. A/C blew a compressor in McAllen, TX at 90k. Constantly leaked water and air;Whistled. MEGA recalls and other stuff. Opinion: Just a cheep and poorly made (in canada/Mexico) tractor thats good enough for company drivers i.e., disposable.
    Sorry

We have one at work. 256k and one sensor failure. Ambient air temp. No big deal. Gets about 6.5 mpg average hauling at 107k pounds. There are also some hills between us and the refinery so we contend with those too. The engine brake is, however, useless when loaded heavy. Ours has the Maxxforce13 engine though.

It may be good enough for company drivers, but it's also good enough for the companies that make the money. Obviously these trucks must give a good return on investment or they would be getting more and more popular. You could always buy an old long-nose Pete though if you want to fit in with the "popular" kids.

I heard they are good reliable trucks if they come with cummins.

if I were to look at a truck that new, with the price tag that will come with it, I would consider a glider.
