I just read an article on this in the Pilot mag. If we were to be paid by the hour you would see less fatigued driver accidents because we would be more likely not to lie on our logbook about how long you were at a shipper. The reason why this hasn't been seriously researched might be the same reason why we there is no such thing as million mile tires or cars that get 100 mpg. Because the big whigs don't want us to know about it or do a research on it.

One reason I believe drivers are not paid buy the hour is to hide the fact of how little many of then actually make per hour.Back in April 2010 Mr.j.b.hunt and a couple of other big wheels in trucking said there was a driver shortage. I'm guessing the average driver makes about $10.00 per hour.

We are not paid the same as everyone else because we dont go home at night. We are however given a vehicle and told to go haul x item because the company says so. If we worked in a wharehouse things might be different. Yet because we are just some text responding to some ones computer screen there is no need for the company to feel attached to a driver that is not there to say hello to you at the beginning or goodbye at the end of the day. There is no real connection. With out that connection, we are nothing mare than a blip on a computer screen.

In no way I'm defending mega carriers and how they treat drivers, but....
Those people whining remind me of those dipsheyat immigrants who come to the U.S. and demand we speak their language instead of them learning English.
Don't like getting paid by miles? Go get another job. You can't because you owe the company for training? Tough sheyat, you signed the paper and you knew what you were getting into, so suck it up instead of blaming someone else for YOUR OWN poor decision making.
Sub-minimum wage I got at Swift was the greatest motivator for me to become an O/O. Those whiners make me look like an eternally optimistic, cup half-full guy and I'm hardly like that.Last edited: Jul 20, 2010

Sub minimum wage>>>There are a lot of post that insinuate that we "drivers" need to except sub minimum wage. My opinion is that sub minimum wage is not for the American worker.Sub minimum wage is forced on employees.A living wage is what is what management fears.Termination is the result of not excepting sub minimum wage.

You guys may think I am crazy for leaving that job, and I can't disclose what company this was, but when I was running local I was paid $32 an hour, 60 hours a week and overtime after 40. Another one was $22 an hour. Go work for one of the DSD companies, they pay well and you get home every night.
