That makes sense in that situation. Since I'm home most of the time, I might as well get the stuff the cheap way. We don't have the truck yet anyway.

I could probably just about pass an audit with the stuff I have pulled together already while researching what I need to put together for the business plan and projections and stuff.

    Sure would have been easier.

Mine was before there was much in the way of wifi or air cards.

I received my Authority Certificate around 9-11-09. Got a call to schedule my audit about 6 months after. Let me tell you, I was pretty nervous about the whole thing and have been planning and going over my paperwork for some time in preparation for this event.

DOT officer comes in, connects his laptop and all that stuff and we begin going over everything...and I mean everything. The agent that did my audit was pretty great and understanding and most of all helpful. Like has been mentioned here earlier, this is a paperwork audit, a compliance audit. He parked his car right next to mine and showed no interest whatsoever in looking at it.

Yeah, I had a few issues, but they were all very minor. I passed (phew!) and got a neat letter from DOT titled "Safety Audit Pass".

we been driving a while now but just got our own authority, so new to this part we have owned our own trucks before but never had to handle any of the work we were always leased to some one else. And now are getting our selves ready for the saftey audit. So trying to prepare. I read what you wrote bullhaulerswife but still nervous. trying to make sure everything is in order. anyone with any advice would be helpful. tks

It's a compliance audit. Leave your truck out of it, it's not part of the review. Make sure your paperwork is in order. Make sure it's all up to date and complete. This includes logs, equipment maintenance, driver files, drug and health policies and files, etc. You've got nothing to worry about if you're doing what you're supposed to be doing!

    Federal agent?
My audit was done by a State guy. Maybe different States do things differently, but I would think this audit would be the same across the board. I'm surprised they also want to inspect your truck. I wonder why.... Do you haul hazmat maybe?

we r in NC and no we dont haul hazmat , we just got the truck on the rd july 20. Cause we just got our authority approved and thats what they told us at the time time they come out out they would inspect paperwork and truck. they havent called us yet to set it all up. Has anyone hired an outside agency to prepare and setup a drug and alcohol policy and all that stuff, you know u get several hundred calls when u apply for ur own authority from different people. and what about driver road test. heres how it is ok our son own the business but he has no cdl right now my husband the only one that is driving but i will soon to , and i have cdl would he be exempt?
