Know it alls?
Its sad that you have such low self esteem. So much in fact that you cannot understand how somebody (us "know it alls") can take pride in what they do.
There is no shame in a job well done...no matter who you are working for.
Two bit job, two bit company?
I have a good job...it pays my bills, I'm treated fair and with respect, I'm happy, my family is happy, my kids have a few luxuries (toys, shoes, food, etc), my wife has luxuries (shoes, shoes, shoes....did I mention shoes?), I have a few luxuries (guns, guns, guns, ammo, ammo, planned hunting trips every year...did I mention guns?)
All that is made possible by Maverick...if thats the definition of a "two bit job", I'm proud to have mine.

Ridgerunner,
I apologize if I came off the wrong way.
It just seems that some of you were rough on the guy who didn't make it. You guys are probably right, that he did himself in.
From the posts I read, it sounds like Maverick is an elitist, snobbish outfit. Making people do homework and take exams? What are they training there, astronauts? It sounds like their training orientation is more like boot camp. I probably woudn't last ther either. The first time one of their "instructors" wised off to me, they would be taking us both to the hospital to have my boot removed from his ###.
It doesn't sound like the pay is worth having to put up with clowns that think they are better than everybody.
I'm glad you like it there and all.
Take care. -

You are better off not having exp. That way you have no bad habits to break. Plus when they tell you and show you the maverick way of doing things you won't be inclined to ask why and say well; I have always done it this way.
Here is the thing with maverick. They are looking for a certain type of driver. This is the click thd is talking about. They don't have time to hear everyone's version of what they have done in the past or listen to someone ramble on about something. They WANT people who LISTEN and FOLLOW directions. They will tell you everything you need to know to make it. Take notes. Pay attention. Study the material they give you. When they tell you in orientation take ramps 10 mph less than the posted speed limit and then remind you again right before the road test. Low and behold someone every time will not follow simple instructions. Then complain they should be given another chance. I know I have seen it on here and in person.
Look at THD's thread he started. How everything was great and how professional they was right up till the point they sent him home. Now all of a sudden it is RUN from maverick. I have never met this guy and knew he would not make the cut. He talks to much. HE PMed me and wanted to know why I thought he would not make it. I told him by a statement he had made on here. Then he pm's me and tells me why he said that and goes off on his story of how he ran his business and how it failed after the divorce and on and on.
There is always a reason why he did something and he will make sure you know why without you asking for it. He even posted in one thread about mav's motel and how it did not have free wifi. He said he could not get a straight answer why. How many people did he ask? What does it matter? Maybe if he studied the material they gave him instead of questioning mav's policies; maybe he would have known the answers to the questions he was asked and did not know instead of asking about why they did not have free wifi.
This is a classic case of clap of the yap or diarrhea of the mouth. He probably talked so much in trying to tell them, explain to them, convince them, etc. The other instructor that he spoke of just read it and vision it. The guy was probably so tired of hearing him that when he tried to butt in when he was talking to someone. He finally had enough and just stared at him and not answered him.
There are so many red flags in his posts on here. Like the heat. It does get hot if you can't hack it you can't do the job. If you are tarping a load in TX and it is 105 in the shade do you think the customer wants to hear the driver say it is too hot to tarp? You think they will move the appt back? Bottom line is I knew he would not make it before he even went. I am really surprised he made it out of NLR orientation.
Guys fail at this. No big deal, but when they come back with wasn't my fault so and so said or should have done this. Doesn't fly. Just like trying out for a team in school. If you don't make the cut, well; it was the coaches fault. Had nothing to do with me...

You have (2) 100 gallon tanks. Your fuel mileage will depend on you; your terrain and the load. If you avg 7 mpg how far can you go? If you avg 6 mpg how far can you go? Didn't know you was gonna get a test on here did you?

The new 2010 trucks have 2 80 gallon tanks...they needed to shave off a few pounds and did it with smaller tanks.
notarps4me Thanks this. -
I took home 800- 1200 bucks (not including fuel bonuses) after everything came out and was home on weekends. If you are tired about hearing about maverick why are you on a maverick thread reading about them?

Pay...
I get paid for more work that I do than most other companies...I get detention pay whether Maverick collects it from the customer or not. After 3 hours...I get paid regardless.
Tarp pay...10 for steel tarps, 20 for lumber tarps. It takes me 30 minutes to tarp a load, maybe an hour in winter with a frozen lumber trap...either way, that $20 an hour.
Mileage...43 cents plus fuel bonus. Nobody pays better, not for flatbed.
Layover pay is my one and only gripe...$75 a day is peanuts, on that we can agree and I have voiced my opinion on this more than once (with all due respect to Maverick, I'm not afraid to tell them when they are wrong...this isn't the same as 2nd guessing their securement policies). Layover pay used to be more but they changed it when the economy took a dump.
