Thats a great point about the CSA, this could be a good thing for drivers employed by bottom feeders.

I've read enough about CSA 2010 to be thoroughly confused. Governmentspeak will do that to a fella. One thing that rings in my mind is that FMCSA is the "safety-side" of DOT, hence the name. Further, FMCSA rides herd on carriers, again, hence the name. FMCSA is not in the business of regulating, punishing, training drivers. Drivers are regulated and punished (I hate that term) by the states through which they secured their CDLs. It is evident throughout most, if not all, of what I've read, CSA 2010 is the government's way of flushing the system of the drivers that they (FMCSA) say are at the root of the problem. They're just doing it through the carriers. I've read more than one reference pointing to the "bad apples", or type of "bad apples", that are creating most of the problems. (I'd go back through the articles I've read and give specifics, but I've gotta get up early in the am and most of you have probably read the same articles.). Anyway, the bottom line, as this humble wannabe sees it, is that this deal's gonna work, it's going to do what it's intended, in my opinion, to do.
No carrier in their right mind is going to take on drivers who have proved time and time again, through violation after violation, that they simply cannot or will not play by the rules.

Excellent information. Thanks for sharing! Did your company have any mention of the accumulation of points- and what the maximum they might be, before a driver is declared unfit??

You are correct sir except that "Joe" doesn't have 20 points. He has 60 points.

Keep in mind that only items noted on an INSPECTION count towards your CSA2010 score. If you get an overweight ticket, speeding ticket, etc. but an inspection is not done you will receive 0 points. This includes accidents, and I believe DUIs/Positive Drug tests, but I'll need to confirm that.

Also, the points only last 2 years for bother carriers AND drivers. The only difference between the 2 records is that even though the points drop off after 2 years, the violation itself is still recorded on the driver's record for another 12 months.

And yes Joe would have 60 points, but only for 6 months. After 6 months from the time of the inspection he would have 40 points. Then after 12 months, 20 points. After 24 months he would have 0 points, but the violations would still be on his record for another 12 months after which they wouldn't show up at all.

I've been pinging some pretty knowledgeable folks over some of these very same questions. Keep in mind though that the entire system is NOT set in stone yet, and even after they roll it out could still be subject to change.

Can you document this info? It's *really* hard for me to believe that speeding tickets, after all this CSA2010 hoopla, will not carry points......

I don't think this is correct. I was reading about one of the cos. in the pilot program and they are having trouble because of speeding tickets and warnings. They have already had to tightne their policy to no more than 3 tickets or warnings in a 3 yr period or the driver is fired.Oh, if you are pulled over for an inspection it counts as a warning for speeding, whether you are speeding or not.

I paid for and received my PSP report from the FMCSA. I was recently pulled over twice for roadside inspections. The inspections resulted in no violations, the report reflects this and this only. Motor Carrier Officers do not have to have a reason to conduct a random roadside inspection. Any driver who runs 30 East/West through IN and OH know that being pulled over for a random inspection is par for the course. Basically, have your ducks in a row, give the officer the paperwork he requires, and I think how fortunate I am to work for a company that will reward me with $100 for a
no violations found result and 20 minutes of my time.

I do not think this is correct. Basically, any violation received which involves your CDL will result in point violations. Now if you receive a ticket off duty, driving your personal car for speeding, minor traffic violation, etc, it will not be posted to your CSA 2010 score. Of course, most companies and insurance requirements have their own set of SOP's and disciplinary action whether the ticket is received on duty or off duty. As before, a DUI is a no-no as a professional driver or an off duty professional driver.
