I keep hearing about people running into problems getting a job as a company driver without a solid work history. I have been self-employed for 11 years and just sold my business and am about 3 weeks from finishing trucking school at my local tech college. Is being self-employed for so long going to cause a problem getting a job as a trucker?

Self-employed isn't a deal-killer. But you will have to jump through some extra hoops, I think it's along the lines of tax forms for previous years, I had similar concerns since I've been playin' Suzie Homemaker for 7 years. But, the answers were different for the two categories. Sorry I couldn't help more.

If you have your p&l tax paperwork I think you'll be fine. If you lost one of them, like I did, it's a nightmare until you find a copy. I would say that having your cdl when you apply for the job will be a big boost. Which is what I'm going to do if Maverick doesn't hire me, just wait for my layoff then go to school.
