Go with ThermoKing, I've never had a problem with one. And they work so well. I crashed in a hotel in July because I figured my tripac would never be able to keep up. Outside temperature 95F, inside the truck the next morning, 55F

Pony Pack was my worst.Tripac and Carrier worked great with lots of service availability.

I would never go OTR again without em'! Unless the company just didn't care much about idle time (good luck finding that these days). I don't think the govt should be dictating them, let the smart companies that choose to utilize them for driver comfort get the good drivers while the others that continue to ##### and moan about idle time watch their profits dry up.

Hey I got a question, is the added weight of the APU significant? :biggrin_25521:

I know especially refers pull heavy loads, does that factor in or is it really a non-issue?:biggrin_2558:

Never had one myself (my company has zero issue with idling...including CA) but from what I have read in articles, and reading comments here on TTR...the cost factor is the biggest negative...the savings in fuel don't outweigh the additional cost of purchase/maintenance/use.

Just passing on from what I have read.:biggrin_255:

i had carriers, the ac barely kept up in the summer and the heat/cool didnt reach to the cab. pointless. i'm glad that my company allows me to use a heating and cooling system that heats/cools the whole inside of the truck and is adequate.

I had a Tripac on that Cascadia I recently turned in. Hot or cold, it worked so well it could run you out of the truck. Also, many states give you an extra 400 lb on your drives if you have one. Otherhalf is right, though. The cost analysis does not add up in favor of buying one.

I think Phroziac's issue with APUs is spelt "W-E-R-N-E-R" as in total s%#t for maintenance. Have had two TriPacs... absolutely great performance out of each one!
