A fellow driver was driving I-70 in Ohio last week. She was pulled over by the hi-patrol. The officer told her that she was going at least 74 miles an hr. but, she didn't have the gun on her so she was speculating on mph. Instead, she got a ticket for not having her seat belt tight enough! She had her seatbelt on (i thought that was the law) but, not having it tight enough? that rediculous. Ohio must be losing a alot of revenue when the raised our speed limit,:biggrin_25511: to be be giving such petty violations. By the way the ticket is 96.00

There are real crimes that occur on a daily basis in Ohio, and all this rookie state policeman had for a reason to pull someone over was a loose seatbelt? GO BACK TO THE ACADEMY, YOU'RE MAKING OTHER OFFICERS AND THE STATE OF OHIO LOOK BAD!!!!

She wouldn't have been giving the officer a dose of 'tude, would she?

Seriously, though....my International has a clip pre-installed that slides on the seat belt and will lock the belt out as loose as you want. Apparently this officer has nothing more important to do than go after a loose seat belt??? Puh-LEEZ!

    Fight the ticket.

It should have the code section on it.

No this is a cop being good to her. She was speeding and he gave her a seatbelt ticket that carries no (0) points. A thank you would be in order. Part of the Academy training at least at CHP Sacramento is estimating speed, and timing or clocking. If they know the distance between 2 given points, the time will give the speed very accurately. They can write a ticket for a unknown speed by writing for say 74+, and it will stand up in court.

This is when you say Thank you Sir and drive away quietly. She was speeding, thats how the story starts.

Best guess by a police officer and the judge would probably be throwing it out.

The law only requires the spedometer to be accurate within 10 percent.

I would still fight the ticket. I do not speed.

I would fight any ticket, there are circumstance that will cause a judge ti through out tickets. But judging by the story the cop was giving her a break up front. In Calif the CHP are tested for there ability to estimate speed and it is available if requested thru the court, or at least my attorney has received copies of them for tickets. But normally a speeding ticket when it gets reduced to a seat belt ticket, getting them put right dismissed here in Cal is difficult and expensive.

I believe it is possible. But I am not going to pay higher insurance or get in trouble on company policy concerning seat belts. I have dealt with too many accidents concerning the ability of them surviving if they had been worn.

The seatbelt ticket is a nothing ticket, no points. Its actually cheaper than traffic school. It is not going to raise your insurance, not know about company policy that can change with every company. None of the companies I have worked for would care about a seatbelt ticket. Nobody is condoning non-use or improper use, its no different than getting a coasting ticket, same thing no points.

I agree with you seatbelts save lives, I see men women and children thrown out into the road way far to often, most die on contact.
