1984 Ford L8000 garbage truck.
-no ac
-no heat
-bolted down school bus bench seat
-the brakes squealed so bad that people knew when we were coming so they could put there trash out. When we finally got a new truck, people thought we werent coming because it was too quiet.
-PTO valve to operate the hydraulics would grind when you turned it on so you had to throw the tranny in reverse and back to neutral to get it in
-transmission was wornout so our top speed was 35mph hauling 4 tons of garbage
-radiator coolant leaked to the passenger side floorboard causing a sweet sickening odor all day. The boss fixed it though with the old remedy of pooring pepper into the radiator to plug the leak! And it worked!
-cracked windshileld from the top to the bottom
-exposed wires so when the pto valve wouldn't turn on you just shake'em around a little and it works
-Key could not turn off the truck so boss installed a knob to pull that would do that
-doors didnt lock
-Windows didn't roll-up all the way allowing rain to flow in
-fuel gauge broken
-rear passenger side wheels wobbled and never balanced correctly
AND IT WAS THE LONGEST LASTING TRUCK HE EVER HAD!

Oh yeah almost forgot, the push bar in the garbage body would sometimes fall out of its hole in the push plate. When that happened you would have to get the backhoe at the landfill to push the plate back on the bar while someone crawled in the body to hold the bar in position!

When I drove for Roadway a few years ago I often drove a cab over
that was built in the 80s. It looked like it was built in the 60s because
people would ask me about it when I got fuel. It had no AC or power
steering. Top speed pulling doubles was in the low 50s heavy.
No air ride of course. -

In 2003 I started out in a 1997 International 9200. 410 HP C12 Cat detuned to I believe about 280 HP if the rumors were correct. 720,000+ miles when I hopped into it. 9 speed direct Eaton Fuller with probably 3.36 gears or something close. at 65 MPH turned about 1600 RPM. am/FM casette with crackly blown speakers. Guaranteed to climb any 6% grade in 6th gear at 29 MPH. Old Hockey Puck Air Ride. No Jake (Boss didn't believe in them) No Johnny Bar (boss caught some guys dragging their tires in retaliation over something, and ripped them all out of the trucks). At least the A/C worked good and would frost my windows up. What was good was one time I accidentally coasted down a hill at over 87 MPH, and broke some sensor or solonoid in the transmission. This caused the truck to rev like it was meant to. For about a month I could leave any of their company trucks in the dust, new or old. They traded the truck in a month later, and I'm glad they didn't read the computer.

We called her big sexy or the sled here. It was a Ford Aeromax sleeper twin screw that had the sleeper removed and no fairings. I think it was a 1995 but I had to drive it in like 2007..haha.. It was a spring ride, air operated wipers, and it had like a 300 Cummins with a 6 speed. I was pulling Clearfield on I80 in heavy rain and lost all electrical things like lights..haha.. What a POS..lol..
