Hey all, first post in the cb forum here. My issues are as follows: I've got a 2010 Mack pinnacle with door mounted mirrors, no paint or powdercoat on the brackets, the truck did not come equipped with pre-run coax which is a good thing. I've got a 29LTD with work done to it by MesaCB in Wildwood, Fl, just a pretty steep peak and tune, nothing more, no linears or anything like that, I run a 18foot coax that they manufacture and tie it in to a Wilson 2000 on the passenger side of the truck. I do not use an aftermarket mounting bracket, the truck has a slot on the mirror to run your coax and connections through and that's what I use. The antenna stands straight, no angles and I currently have it about 5/8's of an inch off of being bottomed out. Okay here's my problem, sorry for the long winded build up, I'm having a hard time getting my SWR's below 2, I'm not using an external SWR meter to set them right now, just what's on the radio, I have removed the mirror from the door and cleaned up all the surfaces that I can, the radio works great but I'm dead set on getting the SWR's below 2, I put on a Francis that I had and was able to achieve 1.5 but I was not able to get the range out of the radio that I can with the Wilson. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated, this is not the first time I've had problems with a Mack and having grounding issues, actually every Mack I've driven has led me in the same direction, hopefully some of you can help me out with this.

Im not understanding the 5/8ths thing ?
Is the stinger bottomed out in the antenna coil?
What are your SWR's on ch40 and ch1 ? . . . . Ch19 ?
-
Mack used to be a negative ground vehicle back in the 70's don't know about now.
-
What truck isnt ?
-
Maybe it was a positive ground I know when I was driving one in '75 it was opposite of all the other trucks. All I remember is the guys who worked on it complaining about it.
-
The only way you can have a positive ground is if you have a negative voltage... And even then the ground isn't truly positive..
I think you might be referring to a switched ground instead of a switched positive.. -
I don't know it was 35 yrs.ago all I know is Macks was the only one that was like that.I didn't even run a CB because of it .

Yes, the antenna is bottomed out on the coil, but it's a wilson with the adjustable whip and that's what I'm referring to, channel 19 shows SWR's of 2, and I didn't know to check it on 40 and 1, if you could explain this a little more to me it would be appreciated, I'll be headed out to the truck later today and hopefully can diagnose some further problems. BTW, I'm not well versed on radios, I know enough but not all, so any and all help would be appreciated.

'Preciate the link, I'm starting to understand it more and more and do believe my radio works 95%, I'm just trying to get the best performance out of it that I can. I'm one of the few out here that keeps my radio on throughout the day and use it for information as well as conversation, in order to do this I want to assure myself that everything is in tip top working order, I'm kind of a perfectionist when it comes to my truck, I hate exposed wires, everything needs to be in its place, and lastly it all needs to work well. Thanks for the help, any other tips let me know.
