Good driver ! Do not falsify the log . Tell the safety dept. and note the log accordingly. Pull the GPS report ( if possible ) and attach to the log ( your copy ) in case it tries to bite you in the ### at a later date. CYA !

When it comes to points and accidents. We have a driver that was involved in an accident. The accident did have injuries to other parties involved. To keep this short, He was not at any kind of fault for this accident.

He was assessed 33 points for being involved in a DOT injury accident.

Cow ran in road, four wheeler hits cow, four wheeler hits truck, four wheeler hits another vehicle. Injuries take place. Truck driver assessed points.

I think I want to puke. Its very noble for them to count a warning ticket that cant be taken to court against you. You want to take someones ability to earn a living away because they are over weight. If its good for the trucker lets fire all the fat, donut eating cops while we are at it.

I just wonder how these outfits think turning down trucks is the answer to all their safety issues?

Even a 55mph truck can flip on an exit curve, swipe or rear another vehicle, and speed (often do) in 35-45 speed zones ...

Just goes to show how out of touch and stuck in the '90s a lot of these companies are.

A bad driver is a bad driver ... no matter how low the governor.

The trucks are not turned down because of safety. They are turned down primarily for fuel savings.

The reasons that there is speeding in the slower zones may be the result of the truck being turned down and unable to make time up. It might also be a factor in the rollover on the ramps.

Let's just take it to the logical extreme. Anyone who is overweight should not be allowed to even live. Forget about having a job or having your health care. It doesn't matter what profession you chose. If you are overweight turn yourself in to the proper authorities to be exterminated!:biggrin_25516:

To add info from my latest safety meeting:
85 points are the highest my carrier will accept. So by example we take a driver whom was stopped, had a light out under 393.3 and gets 2 points for severity then gets 3 points for time weight = 6 points.

Another example : A stop occurs and a violation is found under 395.8, no record of duty status, he gets 5 for severity +2 for OOS =7 x 3 for time weight for a total of 21. ( Satelite couldn't get signal so no records avail. eg: no log ) ( can be apealed )

And in the last eg: A stop and he finds 393.19 four ways out and 393.45 brake hoses rubbing. lights get him a 6 x 3tw = 18 and the hoses get him a 4 x 3tw = 12. so he gets a 30 for the stop.

As you can see where my carrier allows 85 pts. my last example shows the driver gained 30 pts. in one day so 3 of these in 12 months and your done.

OP/ED: This is obviously not going to work. Under these formulas half the trucking fleets will be wiped out for a lack of any drivers. Motor carriers are currently lobbying the govmt. for more time and an easing of these rules. Just like $4.00 diesel, the carrier didn't stand for it and passed it on, pushed back and made deals with suppliers.

What my carrier tells me is to check everything twice. It's the stupid stuff like loose fire ext., lights out etc. and most of all, YOUR LOG that's going to get you. Just don't take the equipment out if it's wrong !

The real pain is going to be felt by "fringe" drivers and carriers operating on shoe strings. The guys hauling containers, the dump trucks and the mom / pop operations without resources.

    UGH!
